Now that is awesome.

Perhaps the commemorative cover will say "5E" on it? ;D

Looks like they are making some sort of effort at last to hold out an olive branch ?

It bugs me though to make it seem as if Dave Arneson wasn't in the picture.

They really should do Deities & Demigods as well (there were technically 4 books to start, according to Gary), but I'll be getting at least one of each if I can! Hope this isn't some kind of early April Fools joke...

Agreed. I think that the Gygax Memorial Fund is probably a great place for the money to go, but it pains me that Dave wasn't mentioned anywhere. :-[

Dave doesn't have a memorial fund that I'm aware of. I'm sure he'll still be in the credits as the interiors are like the originals. However it should be noted: AD&D was Gary's baby, Dave went on with D&D in a different route...

Oh, I agree that Gary and Dave had gone in different directions by the time AD&D was printed, but somehow Dave deserved some sort of mention or something since AD&D was an evolution from OD&D.

Remember, Wizards hasn’t even done an official announcement or anything, yet. Just a sales solicitation and some rudimentary entries in their online catalog with a brief blurb. What’s clear is that part of the purpose of this re-release is as a tribute to Gary specifically, so maybe they didn’t want to confuse the issue by mentioning that Dave was the co-creator of the game albeit not the co-author of these particular books; and then they would have to get into the fact that First Edition doesn’t really mean First Edition, unnecessarily confusing vendors. So you can’t really blame them.

Maybe if they did a reprint of OD&D + FFC they could just mention Dave’s name! Ah well, one can dream… In the meantime, who the heck owns the rights to reprinting AiF?

If they were going to release a fourth product, there are plenty of things I could think of that I would much rather see than DDG:

CSIO
ToEE
WoG
Holmes + B1 + B2
DM Screen

Any of the above would be fantastic!

I think this is the case. In fact, the more I think about it, this is probably the culmination of months of thinking, so probably it was prompted by someone from the Gygax Memorial Fund approaching them to see if they would contribute. WotC execs debated it a long time and approved this reprint.

Let's hope that this sells well and they decided to reprint OD&D!

From what I've heard from Mike Mearls, it seems like it's less that someone is championing the older editions and more than everyone that was holding them back is now gone.

I will be buying these for sure. The only question is, whether they will ship to Australia. And if, not, who in the US will post them to me??? ;D

p.s. I pay it forward. And it works. ;D
