First National Bank; 1:36pm; Monday, September 12, 1927; Lakefront City, Wisconsin

"Del":

Delores aimed her little automatic at the red-haired shotgunner and pulled the trigger. The gun jumped in her hand and she almost jumped out of her skin; but her aim was true and the bankrobber took another small-caliber shot in the chest and staggered back a step and then fell face-forward and didn't move...

Delores let go a sigh of relief that quickly turned to an in-take of panic again when she suddenly remembered all of the OTHER men with guns all around her. She noticed that another bank patron had a small pistol in his hand with a smoking barrel and looking over, she saw Cody on the ground with a thin trail of blood streaking down his handsome face. A moment later; she heard an Irish-accented voice yelling out curses and the deafening roar of machinegun fire suddenly echoed all around her and suddenly the patrons began crying; screaming and shivering in terror all around her...

"Gus":

Gus heard more shots and screams coming from outside the vault and he slowly and carefully opened the door with his left hand, while holding his big revolver with his right. By the time he got the door open; he saw two men on the ground across from him; several patrons screaming and yelling and huddling on the ground and two of them holding small, barrel-smoking hold-out pistols. A row of bullet-holes about 5 feet above their heads were leaking plaster and the sound of running feet and a door being thrown open could be heard.

Gus moved quickly out into the bank and looking out towards the front door; he saw the body of a cop just inside the door and a man carrying a Thompson leaping onto the running boards of a moving car. A few moments later; a cop car with siren wailing passed by; chasing the first car. People in the bank began to rise slowly and shakily to their feet....

"Fred":

Taking a deep breath; Fred took aim with his little derringer's only remaining bullet and squeezed the trigger. He was rewarded with the sight of seeing his bullet clip Cody Power's forehead and he watched the man stagger back against the wall and then slowly slide down it and his eyes glaze over into unconsciousness.

Letting out a breath that he didn't realize he was holding; the P.I. quickly looked over and saw that the red-headed man had gone down to a bullet fired by the cute bank-teller's little .25 automatic. An Irish-accented voice then yelled out; "You bloody pack of bastards! Take this!"; and Fred hit the deck as the sound of a Thompson being fired on full-auto echoed throughout the room and a line of bullet-holes suddenly appeared in the walls all around where the patrons had been herded...

Looking in the direction of where the shots had come from; Fred saw the now hat less Irishman referred to as "Lucky"; step over the body of cop and exit the bank in a hurry....

"Joe":

Joe took his picture of Cody and then all hell broke loose and the reporter moved to quickly get his camera set-up for another picture. Looking up; Joe saw a young cop move into the bank with his revolver in hand and saw him confront the Thompson wielding bank robber; who Joe recognized as Mack "Lucky" Lamb; Cody's long time partner and friend.

The cop fired the first shot; managing to put a hole right through the crown of Lamb's hat; with the Irishman once again living up to his nickname as nothing else was hit. The short burst from Lamb's tommygun however didn't miss the cop and he fell into a boneless heap.

Lamb looked over and was incredulous at the sight of Red lying unmoving on the floor and Cody sliding down the wall with blood on his face. Seeing a cop car in the distance through the window; Lucky knew it was time to go. Snarling out a curse, he fired a spray over the heads of the "civvies" who had cut down his friends and raced out the door and into the get-away car; though not before he was unknowingly photographed by Reporter Joesph Clark...

Fred: I quickly glance around to see who is hurt, dead or dying among the patrons. Upon not seeing any, I take the unusual step of sliding my belt off my pants, shooting an apologetic grin at the ladies while flipping Cody over and tying the belt into a "Texas Handcuff" around his wrists. I'll do a quick patdown after to ensure he doesn't have any other weapons, securing them in my jacket pocket if I find any.

Once done, I'll help round up any other surviving robbers and secure their capture as well.

And after all that, I'll go look for the loan officer and mention that saving the bank might be worth a few percentage points off that loan he's going to give me now... *grin*

Joe quickly gets his camera ready for another shot -- a shot of Cody being 'belted' would surely make my editor one happy guy!

Especially since it's a scoop...

Del gets immediately back up on her feet. She's feeling the rush at the moment, and ready for action. She looks over at Janet to be sure she's OK, then immediately begins to take control of the other civilians.

"OK, everyone, listen to me. It's all over now, you're safe. But I'm afraid you can't leave yet, the police will need us all for questioning."

Realising she's still holding her pistol and may seem to be a bit threatening, she puts it back in her purse.

First National Bank; 4:00pm; Monday, September 12, 1927; Lakefront City, Wisconsin

"Everybody":

As the excitement faded away; the various bank patrons and employees began the long, slow process of answering questions from the Police and Reporters and just coping with the craziness of what they had just been a part of. For four people that day; the events would all have a lasting impact....

"Del":

Delores was quickly one of the "stars" of the event; with her good looks and bravery making her someone who the policemen and reporters were almost eagerly shoving each other to the side for the chance to get to smile at her and talk to her. Of course; she loved the attention and was quickly flirting with several of the men there; after she made sure Janet was okay. Her next few weekends were quickly booked with dates and she was determined to talk to the new President of the Bank...whoever that might be....about a raise later in the week...

"Gus":

Gus shrugged off the events of the day and was not a particularly popular person for the cops or reporters to talk to, what with his intimidating size; thick accent and glacial calm. However, he WAS happily suprised to get an extra Fifty dollars from Mr. Aiello for his capable handling of himself in a crisis. Gus was also introduced to a fellow Private Detective; Fred Baumgartner....

"Fred":

Fred was second in popularity among the policemen and reporters to Del; and a photograph of him tying up Cody Powers with his belt and giving a cocky grin towards the camera was assuredly going to be on the front page of the newspapers in the morning!

Fred also was able to easily negotiate 2 percentage points off his loan and had the good fortune to meet another Private Investigator; Gus Babushka and a newspaper reporter/photographer; Joe Clark. Excellent contacts for the future...

"Joe":

Joe Clark was in a daze of happiness. The day had allowed him to take several pictures that he was fairly sure would net him a promotion at the Herald Examiner AND ensure that his story would be front page news. It didn't hurt that he also got to know a cute, spunky Bank employee who had had the guts to draw a pistol and fire on the robbers as well as a pair of tough Detectives who might prove to be excellent sources for good stories in the future. Yes sir; Joe's future was looking very bright indeed!
