2. We were traveling the road, saw the signs of the most recent ambush and tracked the goblins to the lair. Not quite sure what these other tracks (the PCs) were, we held back, now seeing they are attacking the goblins, we come out of the woods to join the good fight.
I suspect Jariel is from somewhere near the hideout of the Bandit Ogre.
Turning to look at the source of the introduction, you espy what appears to be a well-armed and armored traveler. He stands about one half and five feet tall, clad in form-fitting plate mail, leaning on a sturdy halberd. No farmer, he! Even from this distance, you can see the lean, angular features and sharp pointed ears that undoubtedly mark the appearance of an Elf.
"I am looking for a city hereabouts, by the name of Verbosh. It makes eminent sense to travel in these parts with as many companions as possible, and yet you see my present state, which is quite alone. Might I entreat you to allow me passage with your fine Company?"
Flandil is impressed by this fellow-elf's manners, obviously high-born like himself.
"Indeed, we are at the moment en route to that very location. For one such as yourself, the honor would be ours to have your company."

"Quite fortuitous that we meet, then. May I approach your campfire?"
Assuming all are in agreement that he is welcome, the elf will come closer and sit by the fire, laying his halberd by his side.
"I would know what brings you out here in the wilderness but it seems only right that I share my story with you first. Being the third son in my family, and not bound by duty or responsibility to stay home, I resolved to visit the lands of Men and learn what I could from them. I signed on as a henchmen of some burly barbarian, who styled himself an adventurer, but he and his companions were rank amateurs. He carried some sort of treasure map but we were ambushed by brigands before we ever reached our destination. Several were slain, the rest of us scattered to the winds."
A rueful look crosses the Elf's face and he shakes his head at the memory.
"I still seek adventure but it would appear I need to choose my next treasure hunt with more care. Perhaps in Verbosh I will find what I seek. But forgive my manners. I have not even introduced myself. I am Astariaphones Neltil, tho' you may call me Asta."

Kell keeps his own council, and drinks his ale, as the Elves have their conversation. Occasionally, he looks out, away from the fire making sure that there isn't anything moving around out there.

Flandil: "We are returning to Verbosh from a successful expedition to Gorlminder, a dungeon to the west of this location. We have made a number of forays thus far, and likely will return sooner or later. For the moment, one of our number has aspirations to the leadership of Verbosh itself, so we may be involved in some political intrigue in the near future."

Asta is suitably impressed. "It seems I've stumbled across some very motivated fellows, eh? Perhaps you could make room for one more in your august assembly. I would love to learn more of the machinations of politically inclined Men, and this Gorlminder place also sounds quite intriguing."
Asta will take whatever watch is assigned to him, and has no trouble riding the wagon if it means keeping up with the rest of the party.

Asta slots into the party well, and you make friends around the campfire. The next day, heavy rain rolls in, and you find that the road is very muddy and slows you down. AT one point, you have to cross a small gully that is now teeming with water, probably two feet deep.
Flinn, Highdly and Jerome push their horses into the water, and the next thing you know is squealing and kicking from the horses. One foot long ugly fat centipedes are boiling out of the water and attacking the horses!
