In which room are we all standing now? I seem to hear people talking about holes leading outside and holes leading behind the double doors which defeated us. And what happened to the talkign ghosts?

(I think some of us are standing in the hallway, and some in the alchemy lab. We're trying to get into the space to the east of the alchemy lab. Since crawling through the holes is difficult for humans and leaves us vulnerable, my suggestion is to open the remaining door marked "silence" and see if the room beyond connects to the hole in the south wall of the lab.) (This map doesn't include the storeroom where we found the barrels, behind the door to the northeast, and I think there was an exit from the phantom room that's not represented. But it should be accurate for the area we're exploring now.)

Kirsa says,
"Let me enter the 'silent' room through the hole, moving stealthily with the cover of darkness. I will open the door from the inside if I see no danger."
I carefully crawl through the hole into the room marked "silence" on the map posted by Tavis above. As soon as I can see what is in the room, I freeze and examine it as carefully as I can. If I see no immediate danger, and I see a doorway to the north corresponding to where I assume the doorway from the hallway should be, I will cautiously make my way to the door and open it. If there are footprints in the dust that lead to that door, I will do my best to follow exactly in those footsteps. In any case, I will prod ahead of me with my pole... despite the lack of any traps so far, my goblin heritage has made me suspicious by nature.

The templar positions himself in the alchemical laboratory and sits on a bench or chair if there is one, to rest from the burden of wearing all this heavy armour.

(OOC: Thanks for updating the comprehensive players' map, Tavis! Looking good.)
Eindri will position himself in the corridor outside the "silent room" ready to enter when Kirsa opens the door, or bash it down if he hears sounds of trouble from inside.

You enter a room much smaller than the room you just left, roughly square in shape, with a single door on its northern wall. The southern wall is covered with a rotting tapestry and you can see unlit braziers on the east and west walls. There is evidence of wooden furniture, probably chairs and tables, but they have all either rotted or been broken down into pieces. They now lie scattered about the room.
In the center of the room, you also see the bodies of three men. They're clearly dead and recently too. Two wear armor and one wears a robe. All three look to have been slain by claws or bites, but it's difficult to say for certain, since much of their flesh has been stripped away, probably by the giant rats.

(Here's a map of how I imagine this to fit into what we know, although Locfir's map won't actually reflect this until Kirsa returns and we pace it out.)

Kirsa quietly searches the bodies of the three men, checking for anything of value that might be easily pocketed. If she finds anything, she will slip it into her bag.
Then she looks behind the tapestry, searching for any concealed exits.
She examines the doorway to the north, looking to see if it is obviously locked, and listening at it.
Then she returns to the "alchemy lab" and says,
"There must indeed be some other way into these forsaken halls; three men lie dead beyond, and they died recently. The room they lie in is small and does not appear to connect to the hallway, but there is a doorway on its north wall that may lead to the room that the door from the hallway opens into. If we open either of those doors, I say we have the well armed and armored among us up front to fight off whatever slew a party of three men!"

Bosco Hrusp
"Stealthiest goblette," asks Bosco of Kirsa, "of the three bodies you discovered, you speak of a robed one. Can you discern if they be mage or priest? That might be a clue as to their identity.
"If these folk are but recently dead, along with the humanoid carcasses in yon rat den, then I must wonder how they found themselves here. Trapped within, perhaps, awaiting the reopening of the gate? Or did they enter more recently by some other ingress? We must investigate the remains of these three, for they may hold the clue to the portal we seek!
"Perhaps we should examine this tapestry room first, inspecting the south and west walls for concealed doorways, and then check the door on the north wall and the chamber beyond."

The bodies of the three men appear, with the exception of the armor on two of them, to have been thoroughly looted. The armor was almost certainly left behind, because both chain shirts are badly damaged and thus probably unusable.
Undeterred by this, you continue to search and find that the body dressed in clothing has a small belt pouch inside of which you find a strange-looking metallic plate -- roughly rectangular in shape and about three or four inches long. On one side, there are a number of grooves but it is otherwise unmarked.

The tapestries do not conceal any doors and are badly moth-eaten. They appear to have once depicted scenes of sages and scholars engaged in various acts of research.

The door to the north is not locked and you hear no noises beyond it.

Kirsa says, "I found a strange talisman or device of some kind - I have not seen its kin before. Locfir, make you anything of it?"
I show Locfir the metal plate with the grooves.
"My first thought was that it might be a key of sorts to the door the skeletons were guarding."
@James - does it look like the metal plate could be inserted into one of the slits on the door the skeletons were guarding?
to the party "The door to the north from the room with the corpses is not locked, and I could detect no sounds beyond. Do you still want to explore it before we venture beyond the secret passage?"

"We think alike, noble goblin. Despite the extreme and may I say repugnant differences in our physical incarnations, the astrological correspondences between the houses of our birth prove more important than mere flesh. I do believe we have here proof of another truth that the makers of worlds spelled out in the constellations, that every lock shall have a key."
Locfir admires the plate, while remaining careful not to touch it. "Eager though I am to explore beyond that locked door, I think we should first explore the remaining chamber to the north of where the key was found and also search behind the tapestry, as was suggested. Good priest, do you wish to haul the bodies outside the Gate for later burial, or can you perform some chant or mummery by which you can guarantee that they will not rise again to trouble us?"

OOC:
So what I am hearing is:
1. Explore beyond the door to the north of the room with the corpse (presumably the same chamber that the doorway in the hall opens into).
2. Search for secret doors in the room with the corpses (I already searched behind the tapestries on the south wall and found nothing, but others are welcome to try and I did not search the east wall).
3. Either explore beyond the concealed door that we found OR see if the metal plate with grooves is a key of sorts to the locked door that we failed to open.

Kirsa addresses Locfir -
"Perhaps the stars you speak of have been guiding me along this path from the moment of my birth. The cramped and fetid warrens and the boisterous play of my fellow goblins never seemed like the destiny I was born to follow. I have been an outcast between worlds, not quite goblin in spirit, and constantly reminded of my sub-human appearance in the flesh. Begging your forgiveness, but I am overjoyed to the point of tears that a group of noble adventurers such as yourself have allowed wretched little me to accompany them."
Wiping away a tear of joy and snorting back a string of snot that had dangled from her nose during her over eagre soliloquy, Kirsa turns to face the group at large.
"After we remove these bodies, let us gird ourselves for battle and open the doorway to the north. With such armored strength in front and bows and darts ready behind, even the terror that slew three men will not stand a chance!"
