 Holmes Basic website
« Thread Started on Mar 20, 2011, 12:02am »

Today marks the one year anniversary since the passing of Dr. Holmes. As a memorial, I'd like to announce a small website I've been working on for Holmes Basic. It's linked below in my signature, but here's the address:

Well done Zenopus, this fills what has been a sad gap. I've started a Holmes website several times and then not completed it, either because I had too much on my plate or because I didn't feel qualified. I've long thought you were the man for the job since your knowledge and passion for the Holmes rules are without peer. Thank you.

I agree. That is a well-designed website. Good information and links, but not too cluttered. Have an EXALT for it!

Zenopus - I have a copy of the YPITA from back in the early '80s. One of my players gave it to me to help introduce new players to the group. I think I've seen UD&D, but I can't remember where. I'll keep digging through my stuff.

Very cool. Are you planning on expanding the site? Adding a section for Holmes's other writings (gaming and Fiction?) Perhaps some info on rules expansions and clones? House rules?

And remember that this stuff is also welcome here as well, particularly since I didn't see a forum on the linked site. ;)

After things get finalized then Zenopus can post files on his site!

Thanks all, I appreciate it. I started working on the site last fall after discovering Google Sites. It's been public since creation but I never announced it & it didn't start showing up in Google until recently. I've been working on it off and on, and it remains a work in progress. Essentially it's a compilation of my posts from various boards over the years, plus a few new things. I have a lot more articles in progress.

Finarvyn: Exactly what I intend! You are correct there are no forums, and this board will be my unofficial forum (it's the first link on the right column). No need to duplicate something that already works.

Arcadyn: I had a copy of YPITA a few years ago, when I wrote a little review I posted on Dragonsfoot (now on the website under Misc). I later sold that copy, but I just happened to come across another one on Ebay recently. I'm going to scan the Example of Play to add. I've still never seen the earlier "Understanding D&D" version.

Blueskreem: I'll add anything related to Holmes/Basic to site. There's some info on his other writings in the Holmes Bibliography page. Eventually I'd like to have a separate page for each of his writings, with a little summary/cover scan etc. I have a list of the expansions that I know of in the Rules Expansions page. I don't know of any clones - I think I heard someone was working on one?

Zenopus, I reckon I could help out with some of the supplements and expansions that you might be missing.

The only clone I know is Wizards, Warriors & Wyrms, and John mentioned an upcoming supplement for Delving Deeper for Blue Book characters. I guess neither are really finished , but W3 is a pretty neat game as it stands.

As for fiction I can help out with Mahars of Pellucidar, and Red Axe of Pellucidar.

Nice website Zenopus! Good stuff there. You mention Homes other writings, are you intending to put up anything about the other Holmes game in his "Fantasy Role Playing Games"? I have a re-implementation of that on the Brave Halfling forums you might or might not be interested in.

And I'll "sticky" this thread so it stays up near the top. :D

Amazing website Zenopus!
Simple, elegant, and very useful. (Kind of like the Blue Book.)

Btw, where can I find more information on W3? I had never heard of it.

What is this supplement supposed to do? Is it an add-on to play Blue Book characters in Delving Deeper or something like that? (Kind of like Original Edition Characters for Labyrinth Lord.)
Thanks for the info!
