"Goodness!" exclaims Josiane, wide-eyed at her first viewing of Dieter's magic. (She is secretly glad to be relieved of her evil-smelling burden, though she silently rebukes herself for it).
She moves over to stand beside Dorgan as he examines the platform's workings.

"Yes...well, that's is one approach I suppose", muses Gustave, brow raised at the sudden disappearance of his burden and comrade in a display of augmented gymnastics.
"It seems we are now both free of burden my dear Josiane" he quips, "perhaps we..." and peters out, seeing her facial expression, turning away and scratching behind his ear.

The intrepid company (less Dieter and Dorgan) huddle upon the platform, before the dwarf punches the pedestal button.
It offers some resistance before depressing smoothly about an inch, and giving a satisfying click.
There follows a moment's silence. Then comes a brief and distant rumbling that might be dragon yawning... or a bridge collapsing... who can tell? That cacophony is almost immediately overridden by a much more immediate whining, before a great gout of steam shoots out from beneath the platform with a sudden hiss. And then, with the cumbersome clanking of tortured machinery, the platform begins to rise! Jerkily at first it goes, before it begins to move more smoothly.
And within a minute it has whined its way right up to the cellar, where Dieter awaits. The rising platform fills the well-shaft entirely, excepting the small slip hole which is just large enough for a man to clamber up or down the ladder.
Dorgon is left in the darkness of the basement, below. He just just see the orange glow of the torch light above coming through the ladder slip to the side of the platform.

"Well, That were a sight", Guntrum says, pausing for a moment, "And a sound, to be sure! Let's lower a rope for our friend, Master Dwarf. We don't know how many times this old thing will work. Best to leave it where we want it for now, I reckon."

"It doesn't make sense that whoever pushes the button gets left behind." Olaf says, "Maybe you're supposed to push it with a long pole, or something, while you're standing on the platform?"

"It's probably just for material transport," Desmond replies. "Workers above and workers below - you load the stuff on the platform above and push the button to lower it, then the guys below unload it. Or vice versa. I doubt it was meant for personnel transportation. People can climb ladders."
Now that they're on the second level (the area below the basement), Desmond nervously scans the centipede holes again, looking for any sign of activity.
"Now, talk about something being a concern below our house..." he adds.
