Dorgan makes a point to examine the walls and ceilings as they progress. Any signs of holes that a centipede or other beastie could emerge from?
He's also actively looking for traps, secret doors, etc... so long as doing so doesn't slow him down so much that he becomes separated from the rest of the group.
OOC: I know looking for traps at the back end of the group is counter intuitive but it can't hurt, right?

Olaf is near the back of the group. He is watching behind as well as ahead...and up, down, left and right, too.
"This does need exploring, but I we came down here to clean out some bugs, not go on a lengthy exploration." Olaf whispers loudly, "I still think it would be best to block all this off and come back to it later."

"Our cellars are...extensive", muses Gutave to no-one in particular, "Ah, but were they full of wine! It would be like the Cave of Duke Kimbo of the Nose."
"Still, we have not yet reached their limits it would seem, eh my most perspicacious of halflings?", he adds, nodding to Desmond/Mondes , then continuing without waiting for a reply, "Perhaps we should open this door and see what it holds - then it may be time for council on whether to go on or not."
"I hear rumblings of displeasure from behind us", the last whispered behind his hand with smiling eyes.
"That would be me, Gustave." Olaf says with an edge to his voice, "Yes, there is much to explore here, but is it best to do it right now?"

OOC: Sorry, missed this dialog...
At the use of the descriptor "perspicacious", both Desmond and Mondes slowly shake their heads side-to-side in an obvious lack of understanding.
"Per... spi... KAY... shus?" Desmond asks, with hesitation.
In what might be considered comedic on stage in a vaudeville routine, but perhaps not so much in a dank secret basement under their house, Desmond glances over at Mondes and shrugs his left shoulder. Mondes replies with a questioning look and shrugs his right shoulder back.
After another uncomfortably quiet moment, Desmond motions to the door and they approach it and remove their helmets. Each applies an ear to the door to see if they can detect any sounds coming from within.

"Lord Ulric speaks wisely, my friend," Josiane whispers to Olaf; "Mindless vermin beneath the place where we rest our heads is one thing - artificers and automata another entirely. We should learn what we can before we withdraw."
"And I'm not sure it lies in our power to 'block off' these vaults should one of those constructions be inclined to break its way out," she adds, recalling the terrible strength of the golem; "The more knowledge we can amass as to the makers of these things and any weaknesses they might possess the better."

Josiane looks a little abashed and continues in silence, hoping she hasn't spoken out of place in the presence of this valiant warrior who she's come to admire...

"Let's finish exploring this passageway and then test our escape route before branching out to any new areas. If we're going to have to climb up a rope one by one, I'd rather find out now than with the enemy nipping at my heels," muses Highbough. "If someone--or something--is keeping watch down here, operating that mechanized platform device might flush them out, then we can fight them in the workroom instead of these narrow tunnels. I for one would love to take a prisoner who can shed some light on this whole operation."

The discussions in the passageway are more fit, perhaps, for the war room or theater, but none the less council is exchanged and a decision reached.
Highbough wrangles with the second torch scone for a minute before concluding it is no more agile than the last. He wonders, for just a moment, whether the group might be be served by... placing a torch in it?
At the rear, Dorgan and Olaf are on the look out for any nasty surprises, especially those of a tunneling nature. It is clear to Dorgan, at least, that the tunnel behind is in poor shape, being riddled with burrows and holes. But in the direction the company is headed in the stonework is perfectly sound...

At the head of the affair, Desmond/Mondes each remove their helmets and lower their dual ear-drums to the door in order to listen out for anything that might lie beyond...
[1d6]
Between the pair of them they think there might be a faint, but regular rasping sound in the chamber beyond... could it possibly be... snoring?

Having noted the poor quality of the walls and ceiling behind them, Dorgan is quite focused on the party's rear flank... for now.

Indeed, both Desmond and Mondes appear to be taking an unusually long amount of time to listen at the door. Nobody can accuse them of not being thorough!
At one point, something what sounded like a snore was heard, but... that could have just been Mondes hacking on some dust.
