(041) The Fireplace Subterrane « Thread Started on Jul 4, 2012, 5:45pm »
Morning comes, and the household slowly arises to a crisp spring day.
Olaf finds himself alone in the great hall; the sisters apparently letting themselves out during the night. He feels revived, certainly, but not to his full strength (he is restored to veteran status -- 2nd level -- and I have rerolled his hit points).
Bennug's staff put on a hot breakfast of porridge and honey, toast and jams, with tea and coffee, and everyone eats heartily in preparation for exploring the cellars.
I will need to know which magics Josiane and Highbough will memorise this morning.
Make your final preparations before we get underway.
[Desmond is feeling particularly chipper this morning -- I rolled 6, 5, 4 for his hit points.]

Gustave is mildly approving of the breakfast spread, though notes (on several occasions) how it could be greatly improved with the presence of the odd pastry.
"Ah! Good to see you back in some sort of presentable shape", he observes as Olaf enters somewhat gingerly. "I trust the Sisters ministrations were...restorative?", he adds with a grin.
Not waiting for a reply, he stands and, with some distaste, shoulders his 'temporary' shield. Licking the last crumbs from his (shapely) fingertips, he looks around at all assembled and, raising a brow, says "Right then, something about a wine cellar was it?"

Dorgan will arrive at breakfast fully armed and armored, ready to go. He'll nibble at a few things on the breakfast table but seems more interested in heading downstairs at the first opportunity.
The dwarf noticed that Desmond purchased a couple of shields while they were traveling about town together and, should the halfling appear without his Cold Iron Axe, Dorgan will ask him why he's decided to make the switch.
OC: Sorry I didn't post in response to Bennug catching me in the fireplace. I would have just made up some such response like "Just getting to know the place..."

You can still post a reply in the other post (a "what happened last night" reply)... it will be interesting to see how the Dwarf/Goblin relationship develops

Desmond responds that he is interested in trying to run with an improved armour class is all. Plus, there is the chance to sacrifice your shield for not taking damage. He wants to at least give it a try for a while...

Mads' Cold Iron Axe is a two handed weapon for a Halfling, however.
One-handed, Desmond can use a short sword, hand-axe, mace, dagger and so on. If he uses the larger axe single-handedly, his attack rolls will be disadvantaged.

Josiane memorises The Sacrosanct Soliloquy and The Supplication of Medicant Requite , hoping Gustave's intuition about fine wines in the cellars may prove to be correct.
If simple, clean water (as opposed to holy water) will allow her to cast the latter spell, she makes sure her water skin is well filled with the latter before departing. (In fact she does this anyway. No point in going thirsty... )

Breakfast is done with, and the goblin staff scurry off to the kitchen with all the dishes, bowls, mugs and cutlery, and everyone is eager as puppies to investigate the secret stair behind the fireplace.
Dorgan knows the knack of opening the little portal...

Right. That's why the axe is on the wall in his room and he's carrying his short sword and shield...
Desmond quietly sips at his hot tea while the others discuss finances. At Ulric's suggestion, he reaches into his masculine change holder and counts out 15 shillings. He slides it into the center of the table, mumbling something about happily chipping in if it means having a breakfast of something more than hot tea.
Then he goes back to quietly sipping at his tea, slightly concerned at how restful his sleep was, all things considered, and at how he feels... taller? No. Stronger? More robust? He somehow feels different than he did when he went to bed.
After breakfast, he'll go up to his room and figure out a way of securing Mads' Cold Iron Axe to the wall near his bed. Then he'll pull out his old short sword and make sure it has a keen edge on it before strapping it on...

Highbough will be a lantern-bearer. He thinks we should descend both stairs at once, hoping to flank an enemy below and bring superior numbers to bear.

Olaf stretches and wonders for a few moments if it was a dream...all those women hovering over him, chanting and murmuring...then with a shake of the head he remembers what happened and laughs. Why, he feels so much better this morning, almost his old self again...almost.
OOC: You rerolled hit points, but don't tell me what they are?
"And boy am I hungry!" the young warrior says as he scratches at the mostly healed wound on his side.

While Olaf eats enough for two he asks the others gathered around the table, "So, what's up for today? Something about an old Abbey we had to clear wasn't it?"
