"Well, first is there anything else in here we can use to hold this stone up?" asks Olaf.

"I don't want to go in there and have that crowbar slip."

The Second Vault

A quick look around reveals a semi-circular chamber with five entrances -- the one you entered via, the one which is presently held open by the crowbar, and three others.

There is the strange, hemispherical bulk upon the raised dais, and a litter of charred corpses.

There is nothing handy that might hold the door up, unless you care to dig a flagstone out of the floor or knock one out of a wall...

"Oh, hells," Dieter says. He drops prone, scoots under the door, and rapidly goes over to check out the charred corpses.

If they're ours, he'll slide them back out. If not, he'll kick them aside in disgust.

[Sorry Coffee; the charred corpses etc. are in the Second Vault, with you. They were the undead that Ulric nuked earlier. But presumably Dieter goes into the 3rd vault anyway..?]

The Third Vault
(Dieter)

Dieter rolls under the suspended door with surprising agility for a big man in mail, and he is into the third vault!

Inside it is cold and dark. The only light comes from under the door in the second vault (those lamps carried by the others). But as his eyes grow accustomed to the new dimness, Dieter becomes aware that his is kneeling between a double row of bulky, upright sarcophagi. A few of them have fallen down, or stand leaning against their neighbors, but most still stand tall. Between them are crates and chests that appear to contain... coins! There is a yellow glimmer upon them that might be gold!

The nearest box to Dieter has been tipped over, and a small fortune in gold is spilled into the main passage.

It is mostly dark. And cold. And deathly silent.

What now?

O.O.C: Oh dear... :(

"He cannot go forward alone," says Josiane quietly, speaking almost as if she were quoting another rather than making a statement of her own.

She presses her holy symbol to her lips, drops down and slides herself under the door.

"Brace this as best you can," she whispers as she disappears; "When we return we will have need of haste."

And she is gone into the shadows of the third vault.

"Rrrright then", intones Gustave resingedly as Dieter and Josiane disappear beneath the not-entirely-stable-looking door.

"Well, one must not be out bravadoed by the opposite sex eh?" he quips to Olaf, punching the other man lightly in the shoulder, "unless of course one is referring to Madame du Frois of Leenschchol - she could tear the arms off a bear without dropping her knitting..."

With that, he is on the floor and scampering after the others.

Desmond whimpers as he drops down to move under the doorway.

If one hasn't already been brought under, he holds out his hand and asks for a light from one of the party members remaining in Vault #2.

"Will we stay to guard the door, or shall we keep together," Guntrum asks. He is prepared to go under the door, provided he fits.

Olaf calls under the door in a loud whisper, "Don't leave that room and don't get into trouble!"

To Guntrum he says, "Let's stay here and keep this door open so they can retreat from there. Keep a watch for what may come upon us from behind, keep the stone raised and keep an open line of retreat."

OOC: Does Olaf still have his shield? If he does, can he wedge it under the door to help hold the door up? If he can, he will.

Highbough is intrigued by the big spherical thing, which he is just now seeing for the first time.

It is attached to the floor or free-standing? Does it have any wires, pipes, etc. connected to it?

A description of the object from a wise old Elf's perspective would be helpful. :)

Guntrum nods in acknowledgement to Olaf and turns to take up a vangaurd position just outside the 2nd vault in the passage that leads to the third vault. He remains alert for sound or a change in temperature. He notices Highbough looking at the spherical thing, which Guntrum, too, sees for the first time. "What do ye make of that thing, master Elf?"

Josiane is carrying a torch, but if Desmond is willing she will happily pass it to him, freeing up her sword-hand thereby.

"What is this, a convention?" Dieter mutters. Then, louder: "Don't touch anything. Let's just find our people and go."

"You're welcome, Lord Dieter," murmurs Josiane softly, before adding in a louder (but still quiet) voice; "I agree. Touch not the gold! If I read this a-right the last who did came to ruin..."

"Sweet Lady, let it not have been our friends," she thinks to herself desperately.

She will take a moment to examine the nearest of the sarcophagi (although she is careful not to touch them). Do any show signs of recent handling, or being opened or closed?

Also, she crouches and examines the floor. Any signs of a struggle? Drag-marks? Bloodstains? Anything?

"Little chef?" whispers Gustave into the gloom, his face unusually ashen.
