I hate threads like this. Hard to say if a person is trying to be funny or not when it starts, but at the end people just end up getting mad at each other.
1. When I set up this board there was an option of EXALT and SMITE. Eventually it got misused and someone showed me how to make SMITE go away. (There are still folks on the boards who know how to work around this somehow, but not many and they don't seem to be abusing it.)
2. Folks told me I was daft to leave karma on the boards at all, that it would just lead to petty threads like this one. I happen to like karma because it allows me to reward folks who come up with particularly cool ideas. When I post on other boards I'm constantly wishing I could EXALT them, but cannot.
3. Nobody can give themselves karma. You can't EXALT yourself. (Slightly untrue; as board admin I think I can go into an indivudual's account and adjust the number the same way I can tinker with your signature or avatar. No one else can do this, so don't blame them for having a high karma number.)
4. Kent you want karma? You got it. This whole thread makes me mad and hopefully we won't return to the topic. Kent gets a bunch of karma for whining. Let's drop the subject, okay?
Maybe I'll have to disable my karma toy anyway thanks to threads like this. Or ban people. Grrrr.
Please don't make the Exalt button go away! I like dishing them out to the deserving. I can't get on here very often, and sometimes I wish I could dish out 10 or 15 Exalts in the hour or so that I have on here. There is so much good stuff posted and I don't have a lot of time to post with working overtime and other responsibilities right now and an Exalt is a quick way of saying "Thank you!".
Moreover, there are only three Moderators on this board:
1) Calithena, who mods the Fight On area, produces the Fight On zine, and probably deserves two karma for every pip he has been given. 2) Ronin84, who was running a S&W PBP game here a while ago, but has made only 1 post in the last year, and 0 karma anyway, 3) Me. I've posted dozens of articles for discussion since 2008, and contributed to scores of other folks' discussions too. The PBP games I'm "moderating" on these boards have clocked over 10,000 posts, and I've made hundreds of posts in other folks PBP games here as well. Do I deserve my karma count? Personally I can't tell you, but the membership here apparently thinks so since they've awarded it.
Thank you to all the mods and to our admin,
Also an Exalt to Ronin84! Thank you for being a mod, if albeit a quiet one.
If you make a joke and no one laughs, the joke wasn't funny. The proper course of action is to apologize and then remain silent until you can come up with a better one.
I'm just saying, is all.
No, you don't need to apologize. The person who's never had a joke bomb hasn't told many jokes.
Now, maybe you tap the microphone and say "is this thing on" or tug at your collar and say "Whoa, tough crowd".

You say that, but I got a number of e-mails and PMs from folks who were upset by the thread. They apparently didn't think the thread was so hillarious.
Folks who have been around a while probably know that the whole Karma thing is one of my buttons not to push. I'll reset your Karma to where it was this AM.
Fin,
Really, if people got upset by this, it's not Kent's fault. It is bloody obvious it's a joke.
Mayhaps not a funny joke, granted. But sweet Crom's hairy nutsack, people need to lighten up.

The fact that this sort of thread is so rare on this forum just shows that 99.9% of its membership understand both the meaning of the word "community" and how to be a constructive part of one. That gives me hope.
