[Robert's horse will not be able to ascend the rope.]
OOC: I was hoping *you'd* miss that. We could, of course, kill (or release which amounts to the same thing) the horse, but I doubt Robert wants to do that...I know Yusuf wouldn't *want* to do that. The only idea I have about how to get that horse up to the next level and then up the stairs to the surface is for Robert and (some of) us to retrace his path back the entrance he found and then return on the surface. I'll propose that, but I think time may be an issue...
"I say, Robert?" Yusuf addresses the knight, "We are two levels below the surface here. The only way I can think of to get your horse up to ground level is to return the way you came and then come back to our encampment on the surface. If we do this we must hurry least we be caught by darkness."
"If anyone can think of a better way to deal with this, please speak up."
"Well, all right then. If no one will speak up, just release the horse."
"And let's climb up the rope and return to the surface."

Iseul: "Another possibility would be to let Robert lead us out the way he came in. Hopefully the locusts should be gone now and we can try to find our way back to our horses from there. One or two of us could still climb up the rope to go check on Leopold and our horses though."
"I volunteer to climb the rope," Armand says, lugubriously. "I thought I hated the desert, but I find I've had more than enough of the damp."
"Whoever goes up the rope needs to take the viking's body with them for a proper burial." Yusuf says, "Those that remain had better check that we have enough torches to get us through the tunnels and...more."

Okay, Armand will climb the rope. Then, when whoever else is coming also climbs up, we can (respectfully) tie the body to the rope and haul him up and get him someplace more suitable for disposition.

Armand and Jacques make their way up the rope, pulling Rollo's corpse up after them. Carrying this burden up the stairs is going to take a few minutes.

Group 1 topside (Armand and Jacques)
You manage to haul Rollo's corpse up the winding stair and are greeted by the dry desert air. Unfortunately you get no time to relax, because you immediately realize that something is amiss.
The horses are anxious and you soon discover why. Leopold lies on the ground impaled by an arrow, he is not alone. Beside him lies a headless chainmail clad corpse, the bloodstained insignia on the tunic identifies it as Hungarian.
As you approach, Leopold turns his head and coughs, his spittle is stained with blood.
"They came upon me quite suddenly. I beheaded one of them, but the other managed to get off an arrow before fleeing. There's more of them out there. I threw the head out to deter them, but I fear they may soon realize that I am alone in here."
Group 2 underground
You swiftly move southward. As before, the sarcophagi that you encounter are opened and empty. In the second room you turn eastward moving through one room, only to have the ceiling of the next corridor cave in.
Miraculously everyone survives the rock fall unharmed. The corridor is half buried but you can still move through the rubble.
You are now in the southeast corner room and the only other exit is northward.
[Robert, Gregor and Yusuf all made their saving rolls!]

"Armand, either we wait for them to come in, go back down with our comrades or ride out to fight them", muses Jacques as he studies Leopold's wound, " I think you should go warn the others. I move too slow"
ooc: Is it dusk yet ? What was the headless hungarian armed with ?
