Another interesting game.
I have to agree with the above, a definate SK vibe to this game.
This is going on my list of games to buy.

For I, with the shape of my kin, the ape,
And the soul of a soaring hawk,
I fought my way from the jungle grey,
Where the hunting creatures stalk.

Just musing about buying some eastern 30 Years War figs, when it occurred to me that the lands of Tartary would be a great place for a game. Orthodox vampire hunters and Tartar shamans anyone?

If you took elements from Harold Lamb's Cossack stories and added monsters, you'd have the start of an interesting Tartary campaign. Plus the dread cult of Erlik, the Yezidee-Mongols (from Chambers' Slayer of Souls), the city of Koth (from Howard's Dig Me No Grave), and etc.

Oh, and for those who may not be aware of it: Legends of the Flame Princess has a module called The God That Crawls that would be perfect for a Sabres & Witchery adventure. It's specifically set in England in 1600.

I've got of few of Lamb's books about Ghengis Khan, and his successors. These are mostly biographies set in prose. Excellent stuff to read, and would be fun for any budding history buffs out there. I'd sure like to get my mits on those Cossack stories. Any suggestions? I've read Taras Bulba, and love the movie too.

The University of Nebraska Press has published four trade paperback volumes that collect all of Lamb's Cossack stories, as Riders of the Steppes, Warrors of the Steppes, Wolf of the Steppes, and Swords of the Steppes. You should be able to find these through Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. These are all set around 1600, and range from Russia, across Tartary, and on to China. Highly recommended; and if you take some of the basic plots and just add a little sorcery and a few monsters, then you would have yourself the makings of some good Sabres & Witchery "Eastern" adventures.
