Still pondering.
I think that some of the boards will stay here, even if they aren't that active. For example, how many other sites have forums for GangBusters or Warriors of Mars? I'd certainly like to keep those!
Some of the "old school polls" are no longer useful. In the early days we discussed "is X old school" and I think we've evolved to the point where the board reflects our vision more than having to vote on it.
I'm also trying to get rid of some duplicate areas, partly by "tagging" some posts and tossing them back into the pool. For example, there seemed to be a flurry of Arduin threads at one point and we've stagnated at 8 threads. Not really enough for a sub-forum after all.
Anyway, continue discussion on this. I am listening!

I don't think you need to make major changes. Maybe you could make more use of sub-forums to make the top level list of forums a bit shorter, but I don't think you need to eliminate any. For example, you have a long list of "TRS Classics" at the top level, you could move all of those forums to be sub-forums inside of a more general "Old School Classics" forum, giving each of them its own sub-forum as well as having a place for the "Traveller and Wanderer" sub-forum letting threads that didn't specifically apply to any of the sub-forums fall into that forum. Another example might be to move "Philosophy" from the top level to be a sub-forum under General. You might even pull some (or all) the top-level forums from Community inside it as sub-forums with a general catch-all Community Discussion area at the top level.
Of course, the downside to moving things to sub-forums is they won't be visible on the front page and would require more clicking to drill down to them.
In the end, though, it's *your* board so you should arrange it to suit yourself. I suspect we'll all cope.

So did the section for WhiteBox just get folded back into Swords & Wizardry?
It did. Seemed like it didn't get enough traffic to keep its own spot. (I assume that most of the WB chat occurs on Mythmere's official S&W board.) I suppose I could search for those threads and stash 'em in the BHP section if you like.....

What has always made this forum so unique is its perspective which puts OD&D at the core, and everything else in orbit around it. Here, OD&D is not merely the progenitor of Basic D&D and Advanced D&D as TSR came to develop them. Rather, from that OD&D basis you can go in any of a number of directions: Petal Throne, Mars, back even further to Arnesonian or even Chainmail, and forward even to Sci-fi or Western are just as valid as Greyhawk, if you don’t look back at history through the lens of what later came to dominate.
One of the things I liked about the old layout was that it gave the OD&D set itself a strong presence at the top, and all the rest on equal footing later on down below.

So you think I should move Chainmail and Holmes back down lower?

Finarvyn—yes. I don’t see Chainmail and Basic and Judges Guild as being more a part of “OD&D” than OEPT and Blackmoor and Mars. I realize that is an unorthodox position (due to how the lines later developed), but I think in 1975 that would have been a fair assessment. So, for what it’s worth, I personally would move them back to Other TSR Classics. I would also put Community below that section.
