I was able to get the download to work. I haven't looked at the material yet, but there seems to be a lot of it: player file, DM file, beastiary, module, 5 pre-gen character sheets.
Certainly enough to get a decent feel for how the system will play and to help me determine if I have interest in pursuing it farther. What I've seen in this thread sounds encouraging, overall.

If WotC thought that iffy NDA was going to prevent this from being splashed across the internet they were seriously deluding themselves. I mean, asking people not to share it is one thing, but the whole point of a playtest is to get it out there and drum up interest while as many people as possible find the bugs.
Anyway, I'm still reading, but I see a lot to like (and draw ideas from for my game). It adds a bit of crunch sure, but that was expected. It certainly seems to be swinging back to normal 3x/PF style and not the wackiness that was 4e, yet is written for the sensibilities of modern players.

Well, then. Here are my impressions ... a complete inability to download the play-test packet 24 hours later.
I expected some server lag time, even some service interruptions. In my opinion, however, 24 hours is enough time for a company of WotC's caliber (and a product release this big) to remedy the situation.
I will keep trying, because I'm genuinely interested in this new product. First impressions are important, and this initial frustration will be difficult to overcome.

Given that the NDF was only 1.5 pages long, and given the above statement from it, I read that as giving permission to talk about anything in the materials, from writing style to mechanics, and anything regarding using those materials, both here and on my blog. If they have a problem with that, they can let me know.

Playtest packet downloaded.
I like the way the provided explanations for ability scores. Descriptive without being wordy.
I'm impressed with they way they've managed to make the six abilities more important to game-play. For example, the smarter you are the better your spells work. By the same token, smart people resist spell effects better.
More as I continue reading (unless someone else covers the point before I do).

I agree. The impression I get is that they don't want the pdfs copied because they want everyone to sign up so they will participate in the surveys. But they specifically say you can talk about it. Also, the new document is not an "NDA", it's a "Playtest Agreement", and rescinds the previous NDA.

Another point I like, perception checks do not override player's stated actions. A player not looking inside a chest of drawers, for example, would have no chance of finding an object hidden within.
