Episode 08: Trapezoid Mountain « Thread Started on Aug 31, 2011, 11:13am »
From the bell-tower of the Church of Aylesbury, Breath of New Moon has observed a flashing beacon-light from a distinctive trapezoidal foothill northwest of town. Believing this beacon to be associated with the mysterious Mountain God (and eager to avoid the townspeople's reaction to the carnage in the graveyard) the party sets out into the forest at night toward the flashing green light.
Post here if you wish to join the expedition to Trapezoid Mountain.
Breath of New Moon attempts to make speed towards the hill. She's hoping to get there before any notification from town can reach whoever, or whatever, may await.
Very well--Breath of New Moon proceeds with haste. Who's going with her? I will wait a few days for a roll-call before proceeding with the expedition to Trapezoid Mountain. Anyone I don't hear from by Monday will be left behind in Aylesbury to rest at the church (but can rejoin the fun at any time).
ps If anyone reading this is lurking and wants to jump in, I'm always recruiting new players!
The Shadow of the Evermore stands up and looks about him, getting his bearings on where he is and what has happened to him in the past few moments. What seemed like days to him was really just a matter of minutes, apparently.
He grips the Obsidian-tipped spear tightly in his hands as thoughts of helplessness and despair wash over him.
Then he shakes his head, straightens up, squares his shoulders, and wipes all emotion from his face.
"Where are we headed? And what happened to the fat man with the squid in his belly?"
OOC: The Shadow of the Evermore will join the expedition to Trapezoid Mountain.
We are proceeding with Breath of New Moon, Shadow of Evermore, Fated to Die, and Pack Slave. If anyone else wants to jump in at a later date, I'll work you in to the story, no problem!
It is a beautiful, clear night as the four of you sneak out of town. Based on the landmarks Breath saw from the bell-tower, the best route is past the Orphan's swimming hole, then follow the river upstream to high ground.
Now a decision to make: Will you follow the moon and stars, or travel by a brighter light? (I believe you have some helmet-lanterns from the train tunnel, yes?)
You sneak across Main Street to the northeast corner of Aylesbury. As you pass the old mill, you hear a commotion from the rail yard. The Green Man Monorail has returned to town after a long day's work in the haunted tunnel. You quickly follow the old dirt path to the river before they discover the mess you left.
Soon the sounds of town are smothered by the droning of insects and frogs. It is peaceful here by the swimming hole in the starlight... too peaceful?

A ray of moonlight illuminates your old friend the Pastor's tentacle spawn soaking in the pool. The squid-like creature appears completely exhausted and oblivious to your cautious approach...?
Breath is forceful in her opinion that we should be travelling by moonlight, the last thing we need is townsfolk seeing our lights and giving chase!
When she comes upon the tentacle spawn in the pool, she freezes quietly. With hand signals, she indicates for Shadow, Fated, and Pack Slave to back away, indicating that we all should go around. She's thinking that if the thing gets away again, it could report our position.
