 Episode 02: The Eastern Tunnel
« Thread Started on Apr 30, 2011, 3:52pm »

Post here if you wish to pursue the Foreman of the Central Shaft down the eastern tunnel and attempt to rescue Breath of New Moon.

I would like a marching order and a general description of how you wish to proceed (i.e. run at top speed, creep along stealthily, poke everything with a stick, etc.) please.

The Shadow Of The Evermore lights his headlamp and dons it. Then he hefts his shield, readies his flail, and begins down the tunnel.

He won't run all out, but at a normal walking pace. He constantly scans the tunnel sides and ceiling for spots that might look to be ambush points or openings in the tunnel.

He'll try to keep an eye out for drag marks/tracks, if possible, as well.

Servitor of The Yellow Sign walks beside Shadow, blade drawn and shield up. While Shadow examines the walls, I try to listen as intently as possible to the black void before us.

Thaimos lights a lantern, and takes off down the tunnel, trying to catch up with the others who have headed that way.

He is going to quicken his pace to catch up to Servitor and Shadow.

Fated to Die: "I don't want to be left alone!"

Fated and his slaves gather their things, don lantern helmets, light them, and hustle after the rest of the group. When they reach them, they will form a second rank about ten yards back from the main group.

The Mirthful Doomed takes a helmet and the woman's glaive and follows behind Fated To Die.
"Here" he says, passing his flask to Fated and his slaves. "I think we can all use a stiff drink right about now."

THE EYE OF THUNDERA will join the front rank of Servitor of the Yellow Sign and the Shadow of the Evermore.

He scans the floors for tracks and possible traps such as tripwires.

Breath of New Moon hears the sound of heavy-booted feet approaching. A raspy voice speaks--the Foreman perhaps, is he having trouble breathing? "Ah yes, powerful musculature and short stature, this one will make a fine digger indeed!"

MEANWHILE

A rescue party is forming. The tunnel is wide enough for two to travel side by side, one on each side of the monorail track. (Perhaps it would be faster going to travel single-file on the track itself, but if you were startled or attacked, you'd have to make a Dex check to avoid stumbling.)

Does this look like a good marching order?

Shadow, Servitor
Thaimos, Eye
Sovereign
Fated, Mirthful
Slaves

The trail is easy to follow at first, bootprints in the mud, but as you move further into the tunnel, the water is ankle-deep, then calf-deep, and finally knee-deep. Water drips from the damp ceiling and walls of the dark tunnel. Your only source of illumination is the spooky spotlight beams from your miner's headlamps.

The marching order is fine with me. As the water level rises, does the rail travel above the water, or is it submerged?

The single rail is roughly thigh-high and above the water level at all times.

Servitor quietly says "watch your footing in this. Be prepared to grab the rail for support."

"Hmmmm, searching for trip wires and tracks seems worthless now."
((Is the water cloudy/murky or could the characters see to the bottom?))

THE EYE OF THUNDERA will keep an eye of the rail to see if the Green man walked along the rail with his servants and the Bone woman.

The water is incredibly mucky, a foul sludge. There are no footprints on the monorail track, suggesting that your quarry slogged through the water.

Not noticing any tracks on the rails, THE EYE OF THUNDERA looks for signs to determine which side of the track the Green man walked on - signs liked splashed up water on the walls or rails.

He wants to walk along the same side so that he could search for secret passages he may miss if he were on the wrong side of the track.

"Looks like he's trying to cover his tracks" whispers the Sovereign Mask of All Who See. "Either he's running for his life, or he's got something to hide. Personally, I hope it's the latter. But let us continue on till the path forks; this is no time for words."
