Alright, let's move on, and see what else is about in these corridors.

Is the party

1) leaving the dungeon
2) going back to the stairs and exploring west
3) hoping there is a timer on the FEAR spell in the big hall and waiting for it to wear off the men-at-arms

?

I thought we were heading out, but if folks do want to explore more, that is ok with Jariel.

Now that we're here, I kind of like option three also.

I want to get back behind the altar and see what's back there!

BTW, Sean and Jorman have sheepishly returned. They goggle at the gigantic worm and the fact that it has been cut in two

Option two - there's no timer on that effect

But maybe there's another saving throw, the next time you encounter it?

Or I could stock up on Protection from Evil spells?

We can go the other direction, as long as we get to come back to that altar. That's the most promising lead we've found yet.

Gallaine wonders to herself whether the purple worm had any treasure buried in the sand room.

She tells the cowardly hirelings Sean and Jorman that they can keep a quarter share of whatever they manage to dig up in the sand...

Then she passes a discerning eye over the slain worm. Is it split right up the middle to its gullet? She has heard tell that such monsters sometimes have indigestible treasures lodged in them.

Yhency would be happy to search the altar room / purple worm carcass / sand room after his potion of giant strength wears off. For now, let's search the western portion of this dungeon level. I'm guessing he's only got about 10-15 minutes left of it.

Gallaine looks at Yhency levelly; the air of menace about her entirely undiminished.

Her right hand rests, almost casually, upon the hilt of The Green Sword, while she picks up her lantern in her left. The arcane staff is crammed in her belt at her left hip.

"Lead on," she says flatly. "I will tread in your footsteps."

It sounds like we're abandoning plans to leave the city.

Let's explore the western area, and then head up to recoup spells and prepare protection from evil spells to penetrate the temple and behind the altar.

So vote on the options above is for 2.
