Swords Against the Shadowland

Swords Against the Shadowland was an authorized sequel to the Fafhrd & Grey Mouser series. Apparently, Fritz Leiber personally selected Robin Wayne Bailey to write this and provided an outline.

Anyone ever read this? Is it worth my time to track down?

It's worth reading, though obviously, it is not of the same caliber as the older tales. It has been a long time since I've read it so I can't offer any specifics.

I've read it twice now, once when it first came out and just a few months ago. It stood up very well. Of course, it's not Fritz, but Bailey does a good job at striking the right notes to suggest it could have been something dreamed up by Leiber (as an outline by him would do).

There's all the humor, sex, and of course, magic and swordplay one expects from a F&GM tale, and one fight that takes place outside the Silver Eel is especially well written and humorous. The book is set during the period after the Twain lost their loves and wandered Nehwon for several years. It's a bit of an odd tale chronologically-speaking, but if you enjoy Leiber's tales, it's worth getting--especially since this seems to be the last foray into Nehwon we're every likely to see.
