As talk of the door permeates the group, Dieter makes his way forward.

"Kicking is good," he says, softly. "But a good crowbar can be better." And with that, he hefts his crowbar (which he never leaves home without).

If there is no objection, Dieter will pry the door open so that we might surprise anyone within. (He will, of course, allow the fighter types to get close, so that they might deal with any surprises...)

"Ah...", begins Gustave, still winding up his door-bashing leg as Dieter steps in, crowbar in hand.

Soon seeing the wisdom in this mechanically augmented approach however, he steps back to give the big man room, and draws his blade in preparation to back him up.

Olaf wonders outloud, "Didn't someone have a little worm or something that could eat through locks?"

Desmond looks thoughtful for a moment...

"Yeah, that was Nidhogg..."

He frowns.

"We never did figure out what happened to him. He just up and vanished when we were in that old bandit outpost."

"I thought, somebody got that worm and had been feeding it bits of food after Nidhogg was long gone." Olaf says, "No?"

"You know a thing like that would really come in handy in situations like this...sort of an automatic lock picker."

Desmond shakes his head, "No... Nidhogg had a little mechanical beetle; it was not a living/breathing creature. I know not from where Ulric got his rot grub."

"Another disappeared companion?" whispers Josiane in some surprise.

She sighs and adds a quest to determine the fate of this poor lost soul to her growing list of Good Deeds To Do...

OOC: iirc, Dr. X, that was through no fault of ours. I think Ghost of Marx just had too much on his plate at the time and dropped out of the game. WOTE simply made his character disappear during some hustle and bustle we had going on at the time. Though it looks like we... ok, we can't really stick together that well. Never mind. But we didn't lose Nidhogg. :P

O.O.C: No worries! I recall the posts and quite understand how it all went down - it wasn't your guys fault at all. :)

Our Lady Knight, on the other hand, may not necessarily see it the same way... ;D

Dieter gets his faithful crowbar to the door and applies his considerable strength against the deadlock... [1d6=5]. There is substantial grunting and straining, and the whining of stressing metal, stone and timber, but with ten minutes of intense labour, Dieter has more or less mined the lockbox out of the timber frame.

"That's got it," he declares with grim satisfaction.

This long and noisy process will have alerted whomever might be on the other side, however.

Josiane winces at the long, laborious and less-than-stealthy process.

"I fear we are the ones most likely to face ambush now," she whispers to those close to her, and redoubles her watch on the rear...

"Let's get the door open then," Ulric says quietly, "quickly. If whatever is beyond proves too powerful, I should be able to seal the door against it."

Ulric prepares his mind to unleash whatever magic is necessary.
