"It appears that someone was preparing to make a much larger and substantial form of the mud man," Ulric says aloud as he studies the plans.

"We should take these back to the house and study them later," he says to Highbough. "Perhaps we could make one ourselves, eh?"

Ulric rolls up the parchments and places them in his pack.

"Let's explore the rest of this chamber and see if there are any passages leading out of here. Josiane, did you bring my lantern down?"

O.O.C: Oops! :-[

Josiane blushes and berates herself for her carelessness.

"Your apologies, Lord Ulric. It remains above. A moment and I shall retrieve it."

She scrambles back up the rope, takes up the lantern and passes it down to its owner. Once this is done she climbs down once more and sets about tending to the wounds of the others.

Gustave removes his (slightly dented) vambrace and allows himself to be attended to.

"Don't forget our man Dieter over there", he says nodding at the big man, "and if I need to see the Sisters later, well then...so be it!"

With Mads' Cold Iron Axe on his back, 1H axe hanging from his belt, and shield secure on his arm, Dorgan will pick up the Marrowstone.

"We should be wary 'a whoever lived here afore us. Anyone who can convince the Guore clan ta work with 'em, and gain this treasure (here Dorgan indicates the Marrowstone) in the process, is someone ta be reckoned with."

The dwarf kicks a stray clod of rubble, deep in thought.

"If'n they left all this down here, with the golem to guard it, I'm thinkin' it meant they planned on comin' back. Still... mebbe we could profit a bit from it. I bet that steel upstairs is top notch. Wonder if we can get this lift workin' and get all a' this outta here? Why don't we go back upstairs and then see if the pedestals are the key ta workin' it?"

There is a pedestal in the cellar, and another identical one in the basement.

Clambering up the 40ft or so of rope hand over hand is a feat of some strength... [1d6=2] and Josiane struggles to haul herself up. She can't get past halfway!

Perhaps if she were to abandon her pack and arms, or her armour she might make the climb...

"Do not worry about the lantern Josiane," Ulric says. "It is likely best to have the chamber above lit rather than climbing above into darkness. Please see to the wounded."

"Does anyone have a torch?"

Remember that the injured can rest to refresh themselves.

Highbough has his lantern down in the basement.

Guntrum looks up at Ulric, saying "More'n a few, I'd reckon, judging by the quantity of plate yonder. Looks like a whole company or more. Where'd they'd get the quantity of Mountain Hearts is a thorny one. There could be more of 'em down here. Clearing this root cellar is going to take more work'n I'd imagined!"

When Highbough makes his light available, Desmond will move to examine the extents of the room to see what he can find out. He never moves out of range of the lantern light, though, and he checks all newly revealed areas for threats first before entering them to examine any items of interest.

This includes checking for trip wires at floor level.

Josiane abandons her attempts at wall-climbing with gratitude and turns her attentions to dressing the wounds of the party.

Highbough stops and leans on his spear for a moment to catch his breath. He shines his lantern helpfully wherever it's needed. If anyone is standing around with nothing to do, he'll direct them to load the loot onto the platform. "Tools and timber to fix this ladder, and patch over the vermin tunnels. A job for the goblins?"

Secretly, Highbough takes a peek at the craftsman's journal he swiped from the desk and secreted in the voluminous folds of his robe. The first thing he checks is the date of the final entry, how long ago was it, and does it end in "DOOM!!!"?

"May I suggest having a more thorough look around this hole before we start salivating over booty?", says Gustave, lying propped up on one arm on the dias, "I really don't want another of those things showing up right now and we have no idea how far these warrens go, but ill warrant those rat holes we came down are not the front door."

"Quite right Gustave," Ulric says from near the work bench. "Now does anyone have torch or are Highbough and I the only ones who brought source of light into this dark pit?"

Ulric looks around at the group expectantly then sighs.

"Come Highbough and Desmond. Lets see how large this place is. Olaf, Guntram, and Dorgan will you join us? There may be something else lurking down here."

Desmond shrugs.

"I don't know, Gustave... if they were dwarves, then the fireplace entrances would seem to be properly sized for them. And if that lift thing opens up to the garden, then it would be plenty big enough to bring anything they wanted down here. Maybe it's some kind of secret lab for making mud pies and mud men and it goes no further than a room or two down here.

He pauses in contemplation, "Hopefully they just left the one guardian..."

Regardless, Desmond saddles up along side Ulric, shield braced and sword drawn, ready for whatever might come at them next.
