Ulric, glad to see the others finally awake, retrieves the two days of fresh rations that he had stored in his pack for their expedition to the tomb.
"It's not much, but at least we won't go totally hungry this morning. Olaf, eat. You must recover some strength. Does anyone else have any food on hand?"
"Perhaps we should give our little coin box with our extra funds to Bennug? We should each throw in another 5 or 10 shillings so that we can all eat."
At Guntram's suggestion of the coins, Ulric nods in agreement.
"A good point Guntram. We do know a dealer in town to whom we have been bringing our more unusual items. He may be able to tell us more about these coins. As far as we can tell he has been quite discreet. Gustave, this is more your line of work."
After eating a little, Ulric sits down in front of the fell blade recovered from his incinerated enemy and studies it, but avoids touching it with his bare hands. He seeks his mind for any knowledge of such a weapon.
OOC:
Don't you mean 42 ep?
Ulric's funds are actually 18 gp, 56 sp, 2 cp after all of his purchases.
Have the servants been able to acquire the furnishings that Ulric purchased for his room?

Ulric studies the fell blade while the company chew over whatever rations they can pull from their dusty, cobwebbed packs.
The tiny wooden chest he carries gives an occasional pathetic thump from within, which is only distantly distracting as he scours all his memories for the names of past sword smiths and their maker's marks...
[1d6=5]
The twisted runes graven upon the hilt tug at a long buried memory... the sorry tale of the so called Immortal Smith who was lured into eternal toil in the Underworld, to fashion arms for the broiling legions of Hell. Could this be one such weapon? It seems unlikely... but this small rune here looks to be "Vwielund" in the Infernal script, or there abouts. Was that not said to be the Smith's mortal name?
Should it be so, this would be one of his dread blades, and would be bane of any warmth, and quench any fire. And would most certainly be possessed of an evil will of its own.

Desmond quietly sips at his hot tea while the others discuss finances. At Ulric's suggestion, he reaches into his masculine change holder and counts out 15 shillings. He slides it into the center of the table, mumbling something about happily chipping in if it means having a breakfast of something more than hot tea.
Then he goes back to quietly sipping at his tea, slightly concerned at how restful his sleep was, all things considered, and at how he feels... taller? No. Stronger? More robust? He somehow feels different than he did when he went to bed.
After breakfast, he'll go up to his room and figure out a way of securing Mads' Cold Iron Axe to the wall near his bed. Then he'll pull out his old short sword and make sure it has a keen edge on it before strapping it on.
Finally, he pulls on his cloak and lets the others know he is headed out to pick up two shields (one for a spare), if anyone wants to join him. He will wait for anyone else who wants to join him...
OOC: Will deduct 15 sp for "chipping in" contribution and 18 sp for two small shields from Desmond's character sheet.

Given the weight of Ulric's purse, they must have.
[Can you please point out the post where you purchased it? I clearly haven't captured it in my records!]
OOC: That would be post #143 in "A Spring Day in Ket":
Quote:
"We are going to need some furniture for the house," Ulric says during lunch. "Beds in particular...and bedding. Perhaps we can send a few of our servants out to fetch these things for us? Bennug?"
OOC: Ulric will want a pine bed (8sp), single bed linen (8cp), single woolen blanket (12cp), two pillows (12cp), a pine chair (5sp), a pine armoire (15sp), a pine students desk (18sp), a large iron strongbox (36sp), and a lock (12sp).

(Dang it... too many things going on!)
During the discussion of having the electrum coins evaluated, Desmond recalls the other old coins he found in the wooden box...
Quote:
13 odd foreign looking coins with holes in the middle (of these, 5 appear to be of nickel and 8 of brass)
"Gustave, you think it might be worth having them looked at, as well? If they'll fetch us enough for even just a few days of food, it's better than some old coins sitting in a drawer..."

Ulric sets a tiny wooden box on the table, opens it, and places some left over scraps of dried meat and fruit inside. He quickly closes the box once he has finished.
"I do not advice using this sword," Ulric says after studying the blade. "There is a taint of evil to it; this rune here is in the infernal script. It has power to be sure, but also an evil will that may bend a user to it's own malicious purpose."

"I may have a contact or two, of whom I could make some discrete enquiries...", says Gustave on the subject of various coins.
"Perhaps we can join our individual quests for mutual synergy, my dear...and...slightly larger?...two headed hobbit?" he adds, eying Desmond/Mondes curiously. Deciding all is well, he continues, "I will seek out my good friend the blacksmith, with the ill news that his last superbly crafted bastion is no more, and ask of him another - shield that is."
"I think a small detour en-route may see us in a position to do something with these...coins."

Highbough memorizes The Rhyme of Exiguous Glamour, Highbough's Torrefaction, and The Acclivitous Smaze. Then he sneaks out for a few errands, avoiding the goblins on his way out.
He visits the bakery and the farmers market. As he walks, his head is down and he is secretly thinking about the sword. He's on the lookout for any kind of cracker or flatbread approximating lembas. He also buys an apple for breakfast and some vegetables pleasing to his Elf palate, to have the goblins prepare a soup: turnip, radish, parsnip, burdock, and any herbs he can find that are believed to have a restorative and tonic effect.
Then he visits the general store and stocks up on lantern oil and wicks for the delve into the cellar...
