Josiane closes her eyes in a silent but heartfelt prayer of thanks for a second. When she opens them, gazes upon the smoking remnants of the enemy and speaks her voice is cold.

"For Wibert and Sir Pelenwin," she says quietly.

But then she is all action once more.

"Lord Gustave, this is not the time!" she hisses, seeking to drag the swordsman to his feet even as he tries to sit down; "We leave. Now."

If Gustave still proves unresponsive she will move to help Dorgan carry the wounded Olaf; "Light to the fore quickly! Keep a sharp watch. Remember, there was a foe behind as well. The gate may be held against us."

She assists Dieter in trying to get the company moving.

Guntrum checks Olaf to see if he is stable. If so, he'll carry the fallen man in a fireman's carry, sheathing weapon and stowing shield. He'll carry Olaf's wand if he can, or find another to do so if he can't. He'll preferably take position in the rear ranks somewhere.

Desmond rushes over to Highbough to make sure he is OK after his somewhat odd method of travel into the room...

If nobody else offers, Desmond will gladly try to carry the lighted scepter for Guntrum. He will try to hold it as high as he can with his tiny arms.

"Aye, Gustave. We're not safe yet. Let's keep movin'."

Dorgan will check Olaf to see what his current condition is. If it looks like he's on the edge of death, Dorgan will try to pour a nip from his hip flask down the fighter's throat. If he seems stable, the dwarf will continue to carry him upward and outward.

"Move quickly but carefully. Let's not stumble upon anymore foes. Give me room to remove them from our path."

Ulric says not a word more but turns and prepares to depart. He allows a warrior to take the lead but stays in a close second or third just in case the path needs to be cleansed by fire.

"Good shot Josiane!" says Highbough. He follows Ulric for the exit, Ire Spear at the ready!

"And nobly done on your part, Lord Highbough," Josiane responds, all reproof of his former actions banished by the heroism the ancient elf has just displayed; "We stand in your debt, I think."

"Now in the Saint's name let us quit this unholy place!"

If none of the fighters is in a position to take the lead she will move to the front of the column, shield on arm and sword drawn, marching in front of Ulric.

How are we doing for light? She has a torch remaining, but would sooner not take the time to dig it out and light it just now with ravening Undead on our tail...

"Ah...right you are then" sighs Gustave, pulling himself to his feet with clear reluctance, "the show must go on eh?"

As the party moves off he does a double-take on Highbough, glancing back at the closed door and again at the ancient elf...but he was...

By the glaring blue-white light of the scepter, and the lesser glow of Ulric and Highbough's lantern, Guntrum and Dorgan check on Olaf.

He looks in a bad way, pale and shrunken. Dorgan pulls the stopper from his hip flask and raises it to Olaf's lips.

"Get somma this into ya, lad," he mutters as he helps Olaf take the spirit. He is too feeble to swallow at first, but with a little coaxing he manages to chug enough of the drink to cough and splutter, and within a minute or so he is revived to consciousness... he gingerly picks himself up, and stands; with all the confidence of a new-born giraffe.

[Olaf is up to 1 hit point].

Desmond takes the scepter.

"Give it to me!" complains Mondes, slapping the back of Desmond's head.

"Shove OFF, noggin! You have the same arms as me. Idiot." Desmond shakes his head. "If I could figure out how to give you an elbow to the face, I surely would!"

Olaf staggers to his feet, groaning, "What happened to me? What *were* those things?"

"Ur, thanks." he adds to this helping him up, "Did everybody survive?"

The company hurry as best they are able from the chill second vault, led by Josiane and then Ulric and followed up by the grim faced Dieter, who has accounted for all souls save Pelenwin and Wibert.

At this pace, it takes half a minute or less to stagger once more into the cold, dark of the first vault...

[1d6]

And from the top of the far stair the place seems as cold and dead as it ever were.

What now?

Josiane looks and listens carefully for any sign of danger, increasingly taking note of the rise and fall of temperature in this fearful place. Does the vault seem any colder than when she last set foot in here?

She casts her eyes downwards, wary of any shambling shapes moving at the foot of the stair lest the fallen dead be of a mind to rise yet again, then upwards to scan the roof on the off-chance anything fell be hanging bat-like from the ceiling.

If she is satisfied there is no immediate danger she waves the company forward.

"Dieter; any sound of pursuit?" she whispers.

Dieter listens for any sound of pursuit (or anything else, really).
