Desmond has the further misfortune of having to share his portion with Mondes, who scoffs his part down in about two mouthfuls. "Is that it?" he complains.
Presumably, we still just have one stomach, though, right? In truth, then, we would need to watch what we eat to make sure we don't get fat!
Desmond at first appears anxious for a hot meal and wonders how much copper it would take to get the farmer's wife to make something for them.
Then he remembers Mondes' noggin to his right and the anxiety changes, wondering how people will treat him with his new oddity...

Yes, Desmond still has only one stomach to fill... it's just who gets to do the eating!
Concerning the farm folk, the whole party looks like a pack of tramps recently escaped from a field hospice. However, they also have sacks full of silver and copper, and that can go a long way...

"Perhaps some of the more presentable humans should go ahead to the farm and inquire about accommodations for the night?" sayeth Highbough. "I do not know how the villagers of these parts will react to my kind."

Gustave looks himself over, wincing at his formerly fine garments, now thoroughly soiled, and his once shining armour, now more a collection of loose, rusting rings that a suit of mail. "Though it pains me greatly to be seen thus in public, I would consider it a duty to represent the groups interests", he says. "That is...", he adds, bowing theatrically and grinning, "if you would have such a sordid peasant as your herald"
"Though it pains me greatly to be seen thus in public, I would consider it a duty to represent the groups interests"
Gustave makes a mental note that he must hire the services of a good valet to keep him presentable. Actually, he might need an entire squad of them. At least one to care for his clothing, another to preen and perfume his person, another to keep his equipment in a shiny state, and perhaps a personal barber...?
Finally, when the light is beginning to fail, Olaf tops a shrubby rise and peers down over the river plain below and spies a homely farmstead, not half a mile further on.
It comprises a small group of thatched-roof buildings sitting handsomely atop a low hill overlooking a patch of tilled fields, with well worn tracks between them.
Olaf is greatly relieved to see smoke curling from the chimney, a welcoming yellow light in the window rims of the main building, and what appears to be a farmer herding his last few sheep and cows into a stable for the evening...
There is not a hour's light left in the day, and the wind is in a cantankerous mood, pushing squalls of rain and drizzle across the darkening sky...
Olaf moves back and tells the others, "There's a farmstead ahead, about a half mile. I spied a farmer (Human?) herding livestock into the stable next to the house. Let's go see if we can buy some food and a pile of hay upon which to lay our heads."

Highbough nervously watches over his shoulder for any sign of pursuit. If there is a hill or tall tree nearby, he will climb it and keep lookout while accommodations for the night are negotiated.

Very well.
Dieter is a rather intimidating fellow; a thick-necked bull of a Man wearing mail and helm, with a well-used sword at his belt. His bright eyes are piercing and his face is flushed by the drizzle and wind so that it is almost red.
Olaf, on the other hand, is a lanky young fellow, his sparse facial hair only a few seasons old. He too wears mail and carries weapons.
Gustave is somewhere between the two. Despite being equally filthy, it is clear by is gait, stance and the angle of his chin that he would once have been a fashionable fellow. His sword is narrow rather than a broad, and even now his mustaches have a vaguely recognisable shape to them.

Highbough stands watch at the top of the bluff in the breezy dusk as the three Men (Olaf, Dieter and Gustave) dump their heavy sacks of coin thankfully, and tramp down the hill toward the farmstead.

"Oi," says Desmond, laying on the hillside, looking up at the clouds passing overhead, "what's takin' them so long?" On cue, his stomach rumbles loudly.

"Well, it does not look or sound like they are being slaughtered so perhaps all is well," Ulric says straining his eyes and ears. "What do you see Highbough? Perhaps we should begin to make our way forward; slowly at least."
