This board is the whole enchilada when it comes to old school discussion. We have the full range of old school gaming found no where else, look at that forum list from top to bottom the best choice anywhere. The only board of any type that I am aware of where friendly is the standard and moderation is even handed and fair and done with respect.

I'm willing to check out the other boards, mostly in case there are opportunities to introduce the older editions to newer players. But I don't need edition wars, and I don't need their boards. We've got this one.

I read the DF forums for a long time before I discovered this board. I think the new OD&D forum will encourage folks there to view OD&D as a separate game rather than just a precursor to the "Classic" line. This can only help get more people interested, some of whom will eventually end up here.

To me the "Classic" forum on DF has always been a pleasant corner of the forums there. I always got good responses when I posted Holmes-related material there, though of course it gets drowned out quickly by the other discussion. Which is why it's so nice to have a dedicated Holmes forum here.

From my perspective, Dragonsfoot is a huge clearing house for TSR era D&D, the sheer size and diversity of it works against it if your interests are narrower. It also acts as a buttress and filter, seemingly attracting and containing a large segment of "crazies" who might otherwise wander elsewhere. Sites like Knights & Knaves, OD&D74, Goblinoid Games, and Mythmere Games cater to smaller sub communities with specialised interests, which is great. A whole subforum dealing with Chain Mail is just not viable there, it would get lost in the forest, but it works great here.

It is a joyful thing indeed to hold intimate converse with a man after one's own heart, chatting without reserve about things of interest or the fleeting topics of the world; but such, alas, are few and far between.

DF is the home of 1e so older editions take a back seat of sorts there. I am very happy odd74 exists to discuss this as it's primary. I like DF alot and this site alot, happy that DF added the section. DF appears to be having some major tech issues, been down for a day or so.

I am the new moderator of the Classic & OD&D sections at DF. I just figured with the new subforum, it needed an active mod who would move threads back and forth. Solomoriah and skathros never post in the Classic section any more.

Ken, that's awesome. Glad to have you on board over there.

Any thoughts on whether Holmes posts should go in the OD&D or stay in the Classic section?
Edit: I see you started a poll there for just this question!

Ah. I had volunteered for this and Steve said "maybe" and then nothing. Glad to see that it's in good hands.

Another note is that this forum has seemed kind of dead the last couple of days (or maybe it's just that I've been home so I check more often) ever since the OD&D forum on DF has opened. I wonder if there will be more overall discussion or a shift from one board to another...

Yeah, but that's when I'm home and reading the boards. I ran through my "big three" (here, Goodman, DF) maybe a half dozen times yesterday. :D

Most days it's 1 or maybe 2 times.

Yeah, agree with austrodavicus.

My belief is that it will not decrease the discussion over here. I'm glad they're they're spliting of OD&D at DF, it makes sense, but there it is a subforum - an appetizer so to speak - here it is the main course.
