Welcome, Anthony. Like any family we sometimes have little spats, but overall I think we stick together a lot better than on most boards. Glad to welcome you aboard and feel free to jump into conversations, etc.
As badger said a few posts back, if you see old topics feel free to necro them and start them up again if you like. Sometimes there are totally different people interested in something and you might have a perspective missed the first time around!

Name's Anthony. Live in Seattle, WA, though I grew up on the rez. Been gaming since 1993, when I was 8 years old. Personal journey goes B/X->2e->3e->4e->S&W-> and now gearing up for OD&D (LBBs, probably starting off with no supplements).
This place seems pretty friendly. I see some folks I've met out there in internetland, and maybe a couple from actual factual reality.
Hi all... I joined in '08 but lurked and disappeared for an age... came back as a post about EPT here was linked from rpg.net.
Name is Mike. Started gaming when my brother brought home Panzerblitz in 1971. Discovered OD&D in fall of 1977 when a friend brought some heavily scribbled-on graph paper to school (it was my first day at school, 9th grade, Peary High School, Rockville, MD).
Our group played for some 4 years or so. I became DM half way through. We went our separate ways but recently hooked up with one another via Facebook.
I never really played much from other editions, until 3.5 and 4e, but that was recent and only due to requests from friends... I am mainly old school but enjoy a lot of the so-called "indie" games too.
Nice to see a crowd hereabouts... hope more folks join.
Welcome, soundchaser! We have a fair amount of folks who are interested in both OD&D and indie/story games, myself included; some digging through past threads will yield some interesting discussions on similarities and differences. Eager to hear your perspective & experiences!
I might as well do a quick introduction as well; I joined up a couple of weeks ago and have lurked for longer yet.
I'm Rob Dean; I started in the broader gaming hobby in 1971 (at 10) when someone lent me a copy of a hardcover wargaming book. I spent about five years on the periphery of the miniature wargaming world, which is where I heard about D&D. I got the LBBs in 1976, and, as the first in the neighborhood, ended up as the GM. Our 1976 campaign ran fairly regularly until I graduated from college in 1981, though converted to mostly AD&D somewhere along the way, once the books all became available. I ran a second AD&D campaign in the time of my first job, '82-84 or so. After that, my main hobby interest went back to being miniature wargaming, although I've kept an RPG sideline of some sort throughout. (Traveller, Ars Magica, etc...)
With my two sons graduating college and high school respectively this year, the world seems ripe for transitions. (-: So I've been reading various RPG fora and considering running a revival of my '76 game with the original rules, which is what brings me here.

Welcome Rob, Soundchaser! Jump in and join in, there's always lots of great discussion. And if any of you are ever in the Central PA, USA area, look me up and we'll grab some dice!
Better get the first post out of the way. I wandered in from Fin's Trollbridge board, I am a long time rpg player. Started in 79' with Holmes basic and moved quickly into AD&D. But during those wonderful, years I also played basically everything we could get our hands on. I am a big Tunnels and Trolls fan, but I played Runequest, Thieves Guild, Traveller, Fantasy Trip, Dragon Quest, Gamma World, Paranoia, and many more I can not even remember any more. I was luckily enough to work in a hobby store during high school so I was never without...
The old game as I call it went from 84' to 94' with high school and college friends but it finally died with Magic. The group regathered for a few years of 3rd edition before WOW sucked everyone away again. I focused on watching my son grow up and biding my time. In late 2008 I started the great flea out of my parent basement which unearthed all sorts of treasures. Many of these I sent to Aaron at Nobleknight and did some infilling of missing material as well as picking up castle and crusades and restarting the old group up again this time with some of the our kids. So far so good the C&C game has legs and should keep going, but we only play 10-12 times per year so it leaves me want just a bit more.
Which brings me here, I never really played OD&D straight up. I had greyhawk and blackmoor back in the day but I never had the LBB's. I have of course fixed that problem and also have Fin's S&W white box rules which are very well done indeed. I puzzle over these things and think to myself, I need to learn more of these things, so her I am..

Hello all distinguished gamer gents and gals. I am honored to be in your presence. My life has become elevated as a result. The sun is shinning among me and mine. Fortune is flowing all around. Birds are singing their song. Flowers are in bloom. I am home.
Another new member here. Saved my hard earned cash for Holmes in '78, or '79 (age 11 or 12). At first I was dissappointed, especially because there were no dice! Shoved it under my bed for a few weeks, then one day, home sick from school, I read it in detail. I "got it," and said to myself, this could be cool. That started 8 years of a lot of gaming. Then I stopped. Completely. For 24 years. (Whys/wherefores=long story). A few months ago, I thought, "it's time to climb into the back, back of the basement closet and dig out all that old gaming stuff and get rid of most of it." Well, since then, I've not gotten rid of any of it, and I'm getting sucked right in!.... Regards
I've been a member here for a couple months but never introduced myself. My name is David and I live in Massachusetts. I've never actually played OD&D (well, until joining this site); my first gaming experience was with the Moldvay Basic box in '81. I won't tell you how old I was but I'll give you a hint: I colored in the picture on the first page... in crayon.
Played AD&D 1e and 2e as well, mixed in with some Top Secret and Marvel Super Heroes, then I dropped off the radar for a long time, only playing 3e and 3.5e via the video games.
I was living in Los Angeles and a buddy from my 1e days mentioned he and some of his friends were playing a homebrew d20 Dark Sun game. I jumped back in and it was like I never left. We switched to 4e and ran that for a couple years. Alas, I moved to MA and lost my local game so now I satiate my gaming urges with PbP.
I am running a 4e PbP sandbox game on another PbP site and I was hunting around the Internet looking for inspiration. I found Ways' Deep in the Hinterlands game and was hooked. His game is everything I wish mine could be. Now I'm in his Moria game, too, and loving both.
