Future issue dedications...

Way back in 2010 when we were discussing possible luminaries to dedicate issue #10, I put forth my 2 cents of who I thought would be good. (Re: Issue 10 Dedication Thread « Result #4 on Jun 2, 2010, 9:25pm »)...

I'm very pleased to see Jim Ward and Ken St. Andre get the props they so rightly deserve. But I bring this up to highlight two of the other names I proposed: Marc Miller of Traveller fame and Steve Jackson of TFT fame. I won't go through my reasons again (just check out that post), but this came to mind recently due to the amazing support Steve Jackson is getting for another of his games over on Kickstarter. If any of you ever played Ogre or GEV, you should check this out.

Wolf - we have considered both Steve Jacksons (US and UK) and as far as USSJ goes I am a monster TFT fan. I think it's one of the best designed RPGs of all time, actually - I strongly prefer it to GURPS. So he is floating around on the list. Like Greg and Ken he is in some ways harder to work in because he is part of the early RPG world but made his own universe in it rather than building off the D&D framework. But I would expect to see one or both of those guys honored as things go on.

Marc Miller is even earlier in the queue and I have actually already talked to some mutual friends (or at least mutual friends of friends) in hopes of putting together a FO! Traveller/OS Space issue in the soonish - Trav, Stars Without Number, X-Plorers, Thousand Suns, Cold Space, Star Rovers, whatever people want to write for really. That one might come as early as #16 if I can get it set up, but since we're still working on #14 for Rob Kuntz and putting together ideas for #15 for J. Eric Holmes, there's nothing definite on that yet.

That's absolutely fantastic to hear. Although it has been over two decades since I did any writing for a gaming mag (closer to three!), I might have to break out the creative mojo and produce something if you go forward with either of those issues. Thanks for the update and keep up the good work!

If you do a TFT issue, I've got some material, originally created for Microlite20 but which I plan to rewrite from a general D&D perspective, which adds the TFT resolution system and a stripped-down talent/magic system (plus some combat rules,) essentially letting you turn Labyrinth Lord or Swords & Wizardry into a TFT retroclone.

I just need to come up with a better name. I've been calling it "Lowlite 6".

I started this thread almost a month ago. Over a half a million dollars later, Ogre has crushed most things in it's path. If you haven't looked into it, you should. Steve Jackson has redefined how games are going to be produced.

When I was a teenager, the Voyage of the Princess Ark series was my favorite part of the later Dragon magazines, in fact, I think I stopped buying Dragon when they dropped Princess Ark. And The Principalities of Glantri and The Orcs of Thar were two of my favorite Gazetteers.

I would also propose dedication Don Turnbull, when shifting through old gaming material his name pops up constantly with the good stuff, like White Dwarf magazine and TSR UK material. Then there is the mysterious and forgotten Greenlands Dungeon buried in sands of time, it would be great to know all there is about it. I think some early WD had Alice in the Wonderland inpired material of it.
