 O M G !
« Thread Started on Mar 12, 2009, 7:01pm »

Oh My Goodness!

I got a copy of issue #1 for free because I had opened this section of the boards, and I read it and it was pretty good but only 30 pages.

I finally got around to back-ordering print copies of issues #2, #3, and #4 and they came in the mail today.

I am stunned.

Three issues, and the box was a lot thicker and heavier than I expected. (No, not an envelope but an actual cardboard box. When do you ever get magazines delivered in cardboard?) I guess I expected three more issues about the same size as the first one. (Maybe I should actually read the info on lulu?)

Then I opened the box. Fight On! is amazing. Not only are the articles written by Old School folks from this very board, but the articles are very well done and the magazine has exploded in size. It's not a magazine, it's a full-fledged gaming book!

I haven't even gotten though the whole pile yet, but I had to post and gush about what a fantastic job is being done by the editorial staff as well as the contributing authors.

Fight On! reminds me of Dragon back when it was still called "The Dragon" and when it was fun to read, except that FO is so much thicker. Sure, it's quarterly instead of monthly, but what a fantastic resource! Fight On! reminds me of The Crusader but oh so much thicker. I haven't tried to compare the two to determine cost per page, but I'll bet that Fight On! is comperable to anything out there at the moment.

I've gotten to the point where I mine supplements for ideas a lot more than actually converting to a new rules system, and each of these books is so full of stuff I don't even know where to begin. Monsters, short adventures, general ideas, articles on one aspect of OS gaming or another, the list goes on and on.

I highly urge anyone who reads these boards to give Fight On! a look and to support this effort. It's books like these that will keep the Old School gaming spirit alive for years to come.... :D

Good to see you on the bandwagon, Fin! :)

In all seriousness, it'd be a fine idea if you cut and pasted this into a review on Lulu...

I know. I'm a slacker. I need to get some stuff put together to submit.

I simply wanted to say a big "Thank You" to eveyone involved in FO!. I had issue 1 and 2 for some time... but I just recieved 3 and 4 the other day. Wow. Ok? Just...wow.
I knew they were crammed full o' stuff, but I just didn't get it.
I opened that box, picked them up and flipped through them... and thought: "These aren't magazines. These are freakin' supplements!" ;D

Awesome job, everyone!
