1974 version of EPT is almost here!

While there are RPG releases that interest me, this is the first one to excite me in a long while. It is a must-buy for me.

I'm curious as to the relation of the 1974 manuscript and the 1975 published game:

1. Who made the changes? Prof. Barker, or the people at TSR?

2. Did Prof. Barker consider the 1975 rulebook an improvement over the 1974 rulebook, or did he look at the 1975 rulebook as an unfortunate concession to the desires of TSR?

Wow.

That is a pretty interesting document. I will certainly be snapping it up soon after release.

Yes I was also wondering about the differences between the unreleased version and the TSR version.

I got a run down on some of the changes, likely will put it up as a blog post later or tomorrow.

Interestingly it will be a double paged PDF with the original copy on the left and a crisp OCR reading on the right.

I really want this. If for no other reason, then just to see the history of the game.

I knew that Barker had some version of his game before TSR got ahold of it, and I suspect that it got OD&D-ized a little so that folks at the time would understand it faster and most likely to improve on the mechanic. It will be interesting to see what the original looked like.

The PDF is now available for $15:

James Maliszewski writes, "Print-on-demand versions are in development and expected to be available by mid-March." (link: http://grognardia.blogspot.com/2012/02/original-ept-now-available.html )

I'm going to wait for the POD. Beware the Ides of March!

When this is released for certain, I hope someone gives us a "ping" here. (Or, if one can pre-order this.) I really want to supplement my 1975 boxed set with a pre-box rules set!

Victor, do you know the answers to these two questions?

1. Who made the changes? Prof. Barker, or the people at TSR?

2. Did Prof. Barker consider the 1975 rulebook an improvement over the 1974 rulebook, or did he look at the 1975 rulebook as an unfortunate concession to the desires of TSR?

Regardless of the answers, I'm going to buy the POD when it is released. ;D
