 Point Costs
« Thread Started on Jun 18, 2012, 11:33am »

I've had such a blast reading Matthew's Greyhawk Scenario Report that I want to give CHAINMAIL a try as a miniatures game.

Maybe I'm missing something in my reading the rules set, but how are point values for troops determined? I've found the point values for the fantasy troops, as they're listed for each one, but I can't seem to find anything for regular units. Have I overlooked something, or am I not looking in the right spot?

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

There's a section entitled "Suggested Point Values" on p.27 of my copy; I assume that's the right one?

Well... Apparently, I just never paid as much attention to the Man-to-Man Combat section as I thought I did.

Thanks for helping me realize I should read things all the way through.

No worries, I had never seen that list myself until I checked my copy after seeing your question!

Yes, indeed. Glad you are enjoying the game reports, Morandir! I should add that we have not been using the point values exactly as they are in the book, but rather:

Light Foot: 1
Heavy Foot: 2
Armoured Foot: 3
Light Horse: 4
Medium Horse: 8
Heavy Horse: 12

However, having gotten a bit more experience of the game and looked at the theoretical figures again, I am probably going to reduce the point values for medium and heavy horse to:

Medium Horse: 6
Heavy Horse: 8

That means horse archers are an equal cost to heavy horse, and light foot long bowmen half the cost. I guess we may well see how that turns out!
