"I agree," says Octavia. "The medlar lies ahead, but we should be watchful of danger."

She looks around to see if there are any signs of animal spoor, crouching down and using a spear shaft for support.

As you ascend the beeps to the east intensify briefly, then stop suddenly followed with some multicolored lights. Continuing your assent you hear the periodic rustlings of small creatures in the woods. you path ends in a small clearing, to the left lies a large clearing, to its north is a cylinder with a door pointing towards the clearing, the clearing itself is scattered with long tables, each flanked by long benches running their length. There are about four rows of five such tables. A large board with some sort of map stands near the path, but none of the paths indicated seem to still exist. Still the forest isn't that dense surrounding the clearing. Will you explore? rest? Hunt? Double back? or brave the forests? or something more interesting?

[OOC. Depending on the time of day, the large clearing may be a good place to spend the night. The tables might usefully be used to make a barricade at the perimeter of camp, and a clearing should provide warning of anything coming.]

"Well, I didn't pick up any hostile thoughts near here, we might be safe enough. I wonder what all these tables are for?" Poke looks thoughtfully at the tables and looks back down the trail to see if they are being followed.

"Perhaps they are for eating the medlar fruit? Maybe we should explore the surrounding area, keeping the tables as the center of our search area? What do you think?" asks Roger, his voice rumbling slightly.

"This is interesting - but it is not the Medlar. That's what we're supposed to seek. Let us leave here and go back to the trail to the North-Northeast." Octavia scans the surrounding area, with her spear at the ready, and then looks towards the strange door with unease.

"Very well, Octavia," replies Roger, his furry arms twitching feebly. "You are wise not to let us be distracted. I am convinced." And he bows his flat head with its bandit mask.

"Suits me fine." Poke looks round the clearing one more time to see if he notices anything.

"Aye," adds Meat. "This may be a handy campsite or a place to meet if we are separated." He keeps his eye out for a sturdy tree branch that could be used effectively as a weapon.

As they resume their march, Roger sidles along with Octavia. Lowering his voice slightly, he looks up at her with his odd, dark red eyes. "It occurs to me, Mistress, that these strange occurences we've seen along our journey might be of some use to an ambitious member of the tribe."

He scrunches up his nose slightly, whiskers flexing, then continues in his sonorous voice. "One who brings back treasures and magic could rise quickly to high rank. It might be worth considering, at some point, some further exploration. Hmm?"

Octavia nods to Roger. "That is certainly the case. We should come back and see what can be retrieved for our tribe."

Octavia walks away from the tables and listens carefully - do the beeping sounds continue?

OoC: I'm confused about the distance from the intersection to the small clearing and how much time has elapsed. I recall it being a half day from the Thorn barrier to the intersection. I don't know if it is reasonable to cut through the woods to go from the clearing to the north east path (north north east?) or if the distance means we'd clearly go back to the intersection first.

OOC: I think Rob's got a good question here.

OOC: Sorry I could have been clearer.

You've been traveling only about 7 miles total, the walk to the clearing was a short walk from the main path, you guesstimate that the day is about 2/3's through, although its hard to tell in the never dimming light of day. The gods of day and night have an uneasy truce, and neither seems willing to share a single hour for dawn or dusk.

The path to the south that you traveled from the village winds slightly to the west at first then to the east, not dramatically though. At the intersection it continued north north-east, while the path from the clearing to the odd sounds runs from the north west, crosses your original path and then heads east.

Exploring the clearing shows clear signs of previous inhabitants, as well as some skeletal remains here and there, scattered about, mutant and pure strain. The remains do seem dated though...

It could be a defensible place to stay the night if your of a mind to make camp, otherwise you can continue on, though based on the tales of the village the Medlar tree is about a two day walk.

Meat says, "It is yet early, and we can still make progress. I am for cutting through these woods to the east to arrive at the right fork of the road heading north north east. If there were a predator at the intersection, we may avoid it this way. And yet the wood is not dense; we should be able to pass through quickly."
