Hewald: hmmmm, maybe if we chip away at the stone floor with some iron spikes, it may help loosen the bar while the camel pulls, like pulling a tooth, no?
Hewald the adventerous(AC 4, MV 5, HD1, HP 5, #AT1, Battle axe 1-8, hand axe 1-6. chain mail and shield(round), camel, large waterskin, large backpack, torch, flask of flamming oil,50'rope, 7 urns containing the ashes of the ancients.
Iseul: "Romeo, Jochi, Yusuf, see if you can find a mechanism for raising these bars on your side."
"Gregor, check for a mechanism to raise these bars on your side too. There must be one here somewhere. I don't think we're strong enough to raise them by hand. If you need a torch Zulayman can hand you one."
Yusuf looks for any mechanism that might raise the bars, but he keeps an eye out for any monsters that might have been trailing the party, for now they will surely catch up!

Group 1 topside (Armand and Jacques)
As you peer out from the shadows you quickly spot Kristos and three of his cronies, standing in the shade of a broken column. The are intently looking your way and seem to be undecided on what course of action to take next.
Jacques quickly stabilizes Leopold and then searches the corpses. They all seem to be well off and you count 200 gold between them.
Leopold revives with a coughing fit and gives a hoarse whistle as he notices the dead Hungarians.
"Mon Dieu! You have been busy..."
Group 2 underground
Try as you might (even with a camel), you cannot get the thick metal bars to budge. Hammering at the floor or ceiling also proves difficult, as the floor is flooded and the ceiling is high up.
Searching the walls, both inside the corridor and outside, has also yielded nothing. The walls are quite bare and featureless, so if they conceal a mechanism it must be well hidden.

Yusuf says as he continues to push against the walls hoping for some hidden mechanism, "If it is not on the walls, it must be on the floor? Something beneath the water we have been slogging through."
"But, I do not think the mechanism to raise the bars would be inside the corridor, I think it would be on one side or the other."

"Is there any way out of here without the rest of them seeing us?" Armand whispers. "If we can sneak out, then when they attack again we can fall upon them from behind, and wipe out this Hungarian pestilence once and for all."

Hewald goes to inspect the walls on both sides of the bars " perhaps we can chilsel a space on the side walls large enough for our compainions to squeeze through?

You could slip out the back, but that would lead you into the quicksand. [/color]
"Armand, stepping stones. We have 3 shields, one of us could throw and jump until he cleared the quicksand, unarmoured of course. The other could loose a couple of horses out of the front to divert Kristos. Once across the quicksand the other has to either lead the Hungarians away and kill them, haha. The one who remains gets Leopold out of here at the first opportunity, either hide or tie him to the horse if he cannot ride."
"Stupid plan, non ?"Jacques smiles and starts to strip himself of his plate armour, buckling his sword across his back, his knife in his boot.

Gregor curses as the torches go out.
"Let's get some more torches lit. Who has more? I think I saw a pick and shovel on the camel above. We could go retrieve them and return to free you from this trap. Hopefully these bars will serve to keep the demons in this place from getting to you while you wait. Robert, how much farther is it to the surface from here?"
Once he has a new torch and the necessary information, Gregor will head to the surface to retrieve the tools.
"Come Hewald, there is safety in numbers in this place."

Yusuf asks, "Romeo and Jochi, should we remain here in this room, or should we retrace our steps and try to reach the surface?"
"Those trapped in the corridor should be safe from attack while the iron bars imprison them. We, on the other hand, are exposed to attack from one side." Yusuf says, "If we retrace our steps and make it to the surface we can retrieve tools that we might use to free our companions."
