"Back! Back, you vile thing!" Jochi yells. "Friends, drag away the bodies of the fallen! We must not leave them here where the dead do not die!" He continues cracking the whip, seeking to force the monster back to the hole.

His brow furrowed with concentration, Jacques shuts out the noise and activity around him as he focusses on reading the scroll. Somehow this seems familiar to him.

Yusuf Kamal pauses and cocks his ears to the side, "The sounds of battle." he says to himself as he hears shouts and screams in the distance.
"Better a quick death in a battle than slow death from thirst here in the desert." he says shaking his almost empty water skin and turning toward the tall tower and large building to his left.
As he draws near he sees a group of horses nervously pawing at the sand with a single guard visible. The horses and man do not seem to be undead from their looks, so Yusuf decides to approach.
From inside the large barn like building he can hear the sounds of shouts and metal clashing on metal.
"Hello!" Kamal shouts to the man standing with the horses, "May I approach your position?"

Encouraged by the group's successful attacks and the thing's apparent fear of the whip, Zulayman shouts, "We can retrieve your brave comrades from this place when this thing is conquered. Press forward, even now its flesh seems falter!"

Jochi is aghast that his allies insist on fighting this monstrosity, and is torn between fearing for his own survival and that of his friends.
"Bad, bad thing!" he shouts at the monster, and tries to entangle the shovel it is holding with his whip and wrest it from its hands. "Down on your knees! Take the punishment you deserve!"
OOC: Rolled a 7, which seems promising. Burke, go ahead and make any other rolls you need to resolve this disarm attempt.

Insufficient light prevents Jacques from interpreting the scroll [no use wasting it ], but Jochi manages to disarm the monster and together you herd it down the hole. The monster skulks off into the darkness from whence it came and you slam the trapdoor shut behind it.
The man by the horses starts as Yusuf calls out. After a few seconds of disbelieving staring he warily indicates for Yusuf to approach.
"For supposedly lost and haunted ruins, there sure are a lot of people running around", Léopold comments and introduces himself.
After hurriedly swearing in the newcomer, Léopold explains the situation, "The rest of the group is tangling with a gigantic, undead monster inside the barn and the sudden silence is making me fear the worst. Why don't you climb up the rope and see if anyone is still alive in there?"

"I am Yusuf Kamal." the newcomer says to the French knight, "I was with a party of adventurers that was attacked by giant locusts. We were separated, and I do not know if others survived. You say another stranger came upon you this day? Perhaps another of my friends survived?"

"I will do so!" Yusuf nods his head and follows through on his words, by climbing the rope to the window, "Hello?" he shouts from the window sill.
Yusuf does not expect monstrous creatures to speak to him, "A friend comes to your aid, if you hear me reply so I may know that the living have won against the undead!"

"Ho there!" Jochi calls. "Turn around and meet us by the horses - I cannot be gone from this place soon enough."
As he heads for the stairs, he pulls the papers and pouch from inside his shirt. "I have found some things that may be of value," he tells the others, "but I won't show them to you until we are safely outside!"

Zulayman leans upon his sword with fatigue after the trapdoor is secured. "My curiosity about this place- its contents, and purpose," he exhales, "is luckily checked by my instinct for self preservation. It is curious to me, however, that strong words and a whip cowed the giant. But if I have a voice in such matters, I too would be away- at least for now."
Zulayman quickly introduces himself to the rest of the party and recounts his meeting with Leopold, spitting to prove his corporeality and his oath to the group.
Raising himself up, he says."I shall aid in the removal of your friends." He begins to rise then hears Yusuf's call.
"I know that voice- so another of my ragged band survived this day!"
