Iseul will light his lantern and shine it around a bit before entering to see if the walkway looks safe enough to walk on.

Nestor climbs up the rope and joins the two thieves on the roof of the barn. Once there he readies his bow and keeps an eye on the surroundings for any approaching foes.

When Nestor is up, Rollo will takes his turn with the rope, struggling with his spear which is the most uncortable thing to wield when climbing... "No viscous monstruosity on sight, Nestor?"

Iseul smashes the shutters with one strong swing of the pickaxe. The inside of the barn is quite murky, as only a few thin beams of sunlight penetrate the shutters. It seems to be one big room and there is a metal walkway with a railing just inside the window.

Karl leans over the edge of the roof and looks down, "What do you see, Iseul?"

Armand keeps his two feet flat on the ground.

Like many of the rest, he's keeping an eye out for trouble.

Karl will spot the rope for Nestor and then for Rollo.

"None up here that I saw." Karl huffs as he helps the much large Rollo onto the roof. I think the action is going to be down there where Isuel is."

The walkway is 5' wide and heavily corroded. Thick iron has been used in its construction, but if it will carry a man after all these centuries is anyone's guess. The lantern only shines 30' so nothing more can be gleaned from the outside.

Jacques takes a swig of water and sees to his horse. He mops his brow and kisses his amulet.
"Always the climbing" he muses, then strips off his armour and taking 2 torches and a large sack from Caesar, shins up the rope, armed with sword and knife.
OOC: if there's any rope left he'll take that up too.

Iseul: "There's a narrow walkway just inside the window. It's made of thick metal so maybe it will still hold to walk on."

"Karl, maybe you could lend me your 10' pole and I could use it to poke at the walkway to see if it seems stable enough before I go in?"

"Certainly!" Karl says from atop the building, "I"ll have to climb down and get it for you...give me a minute."

Karl climbs down using the rope and retrieves his 10' pole. Strapping it to his back he climbs back up to the window where Isuel is waiting.

"Here you are." Karl says as he swings over and sits on the window ledge and looks up, "Hey, will one of you come down and hold the lantern for Isuel while he probes ahead with the pole?"

"Keep this rope tied around you when you enter." Karl says, "I'll belay the rope with a spike driven between the rocks here. If the balcony breaks, you won't fall far, and can climb back up if you do."

Karl concludes, "One to hold the light, one to belay the line, and one to climb inside and probe. How does that sound to everyone?"

"On my way, mes amis"

Jacques, having climbed to the roof, propels himself down the rope.

OOC: Jacques will join Karl on the ledge to hold the lantern if Iseul decides to brave the walkway. If Iseul wants to venture ahead with the lantern, Jacques will light a torch and follow if Iseul thinks the balcony can bear the extra weight.

OOC: Karl wants to enter, too, but will hold his position, belaying the rope for Isuel and then for Jacques, until/if they check out the walkway. If the walkway seems safe, Karl will pass the task of belaying the line to someone else and enter himself. With Karl's AC of 7, he might be better using his bow and letting those with lower AC form the vanguard...but I think we're *all* anxious to do some exploring. :)

Jochi will climb up and volunteer to be the first on the balcony. "I have had such things collapse under me before, I know how it is done!"

If possible, he'll tie a rope around himself and fasten the other end to the shutter of the window, leaving little enough slack that he can't fall all the way to the ground.

(OOC: I seem to remember we were going to have somebody to watch the horses. Do we, in fact, have somebody like that? Because I want to get in on the exploration, but a large number of unattended horses bothers me...)
