I think it's great if players take initiative like this. After all, there is only so much I can describe at any time, so it actually helps if the players just assume some things and go with it. I of course reserve the right to do the same with your actions from time to time.

OOC2: Nestor is not armored but he is carrying his sword and dagger.

That seems reasonable. Let's just hope this brawl doesn't spin completely out of control.

OOC3: I assume we are using the equipment costs from the Men and Magic brown book?

Yes. Snorri was kind enough to make a pdf of the OD&D price list, I've put a link to it on the rules page.

"Punch me, will you?" Armand bellows. "Swine!"

Armand strikes Bence

1d20
9 = 9

Okay, if none of us are armored, that hits, for:

1d4
1 = 1

a measly one point of damage.

Iseul noticing the brawl will go to the back of the tent and try to sneak in through the back entrance (rolled 7 on a stunt roll). Once inside he will first look for any unguarded loot. If he doesn't find anything worth stealing he will grab a chair or something else suitable for that purpose and use it to backstab one of the Hungarian brigands.

Romeo punches the lights out of his earless opponent, but Jochi is still not rid of his and neither is Armand.

Rollo tries to grab the skinny guy, but he is not fast enough. The Hungarian crawls out under the wall of the tent only to be pounced upon by Nestor who was coming to investigate the loud noises from the brawl.

Unseen by all, Iseul crawls into the back of the tent. The "back room" is only a small portion of the tent walled off with some thick drapes. Colorful rugs adorn the floor and a heap of heavy pillows is probably a bed. A large copper basin, filled with dirty water, sits to one side and large, locked trunk to the other.

OOC: You've got the initiative for the next round. Picking the lock of the trunk will require a saving throw, but since Iseul has the tools and the know-how and the lock is not of the best craftmanship, the roll will be made on a d10.

Iseul picks the lock on the trunk (rolled a 1 on the saving throw).

Still trying to be rid of the man grappling him, Jochi bends low and tries to toss the Hungarian over his head. When the maneuver succeeds, he leaps on top of him, falling on him with his elbow.

OOC: Rolled an 8 to hit, 4 damage.

Angrered by that Hungarian's quickness, Rollo run after him, shouting words which could make blush a full army of drunken templars (hoping there's no viking templar in the camp to understand him) and begin to pull the tent's ropes to make it fall on the Magyar.

Nestor rises up on his knees and brings his fist down on the skinnny Hungarians nose.

OOC: Rolled a 12. Any chance for a bonus to hit since my opponent was knocked to the ground?

Jacques is lying on the tent's floor, his last conscious thoughts were of a woman's face amidst a mighty battle.

OOC: What say I roll each round from now on to see if Jacques sustains any further damage as combatants fight around him - saving throw but without the level maybe (so 4 or under !):

1d20
17 = 17

- and is kicked/stomped on for:

1d4
1 = 1

think he's gonna miss his dinner date !

OOC: What?! Are you some kind of masochist? ;) But seriously, this is just a friendly bar fight where the shame of defeat hurts more than the broken nose. :D

Jochi gets the upper hand on the ugly guy and knocks him out, while Armand and Romeo gang up on Bence and do the same. The skinny guy is like an eel and Nestor can't get a serious hit in. Finally he manages to wriggle himself loose and run like a rabbit.

Meanwhile Iseul gets the trunk open and finds a small lockbox hidden under an assortment of gaudy clothes and an illustrated copy of One Thousand and One Nights (a.k.a. Arabian Nights). Quickly grabbing the book and the box, Iseul ducks out of the tent just as it begins to sag.

Armand and Romeo barely manage to drag the unconscious Jacques out of the tent before it topples. As they look back over the wreckage they see the young Viking grinning proudly back at them.

Nestor dusts the sand off his clothes and joins his companions just as the brothel keeper returns with a four Bedouin guards and a gaggle of scantily clad slave girls in tow.

"Ah! Look at what they have done to my establishment! What barbarians!", he cries and goes into a long rant that is difficult to follow.

No one gets a word in edgewise until the brothel keeper is interrupted by the arrival of the Hungarian captain and five of his men, including the skinny guy. Captain Kristóf the Cruel is still in the process of pulling on his hauberk and eating a chicken drum stick when he stops by the fallen tent.

"You drag me away from my supper for this?", he exclaims and casually slaps the skinny guy around, before turning to address the brothel keeper and the Bedouin guards. "Obviously these rogues are the culprits you want", and he indicates you, "Cut off their hands and confiscate their belongings. That should be enough to compensate this flea ridden pimp!" Not surprisingly a heated argument ensues.

While this has been going on, Iseul has managed to hide the lockbox and the book in a safe place and return to the side of his comrades, who are now all assembled by the remains of the brothel. Jacques is coming to and there is some movement beneath the tent. Just before it catches fire, Bence and his two comrades come crawling out.

As the tent goes up in flames, the exasperated brothel keeper falls to his knees and curses you all to the gods.

OOC: Jacques, Jochi, Armand, Romeo, Rollo and Nestor receive half XP for the brawl, 25 points each.

Nestor tries to soothe the obviously upset brothel keeper.

"Accept our apologies sir. This was simply a soldiers fight that got a little out of hand. Our comrade was being accosted by these 'gentlemen' and we simply came to his aid. What will it take to get you back in business? We certainly do not wish to be deprived of you or your ladies services."
