OD&D Adventures? « Thread Started on Jun 17, 2008, 8:28am »
Hey all!
I've been lurking around here trying to get educated on OD&D (and it's a good site for that!). After reading the 3 little books, I'm having trouble finding any adventures for OD&D. Can anybody point me to some?

In addition to homebrew materials (yay!), TSR and JG both published OD&D adventures, including:
TSR: S4 tourney version (Lost Caverns of Tsojconth), S1, G1-3, D1-3 JG: see http://www.acaeum.com/jg/IndexbySystem.html for the D&D adventures (D&D there means OD&D, not Basic/Expert D&D)
Various other early OD&D adventure publishers included Wee Warriors, Daystar West, and others, too. See www.afterglow2.com or www.tomeoftreasures.com for details on these.

What I did was to google for dungeon maps. I found one with something like 13 rooms, them put together a simple grid for (1) room #, (2) monster found there, and (3) treasure found there. Kind of like what you'd see in the old Monsters & Treasure Assortment product put out by TSR in the early days. Then I set up a general theme for the complex and stocked my dungeon.
My dungeon fits all on one side of a single sheet of paper. I figure that that little adventure will last me for 2-3 sessions at least.

I think that Finarvyn's method is a good one. I used to put myself under the tyranny of thinking it all had to be original and somewhat on par with published modules. Needless to say, I did not get much done. The sites mentioned above are great for OD&D materials in my experience.

That IS a great idea Fin!
You need to write something up for Fight On! about techniques of dungeon construction; I still write up dungeons like I did when I was, like 14, and there are certainly more efficient ways to go about it!

For all the simplicity of your idea, Fin, I think it will help me out of a rut I've been in. I've been making my dungeon projects too much work! Amazing that a perfectionist might do that, eh?
Really, though, I need to stop sitting around writing big descriptions about the type of debris littering the floor and how damp the place is. I should just jot a note or two if it's important and improvise the rest in play.
I've been trying to turn my dungeons into dissertations. Which is really dumb, because I'm already working on a dissertation!
So, have an exalt. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.

While nominally for Castles&Crusades, this adventure of mine is, I'd like to think, very OD&D. It is almost entirely a challenge for player skill; it is a mixture of an overarching and several smaller challenges which are often contradictory; last but not least, it is about the very OD&D concept of "you have been transported into a strange and hostile land - now what do you do?"
Good Laird, melan, that adventure is amazing! It's totally convertable as it stands, but you should retool it for FightOn! I think it has potential as the Expedition to the Barrier Peaks for ODD, right down to the illustration booklet. Man. It oozes creativity. It even reads like avante-garde fiction. I'm juiced! Thank you!
