Question about solo dungeon in TSR Vol. 1 No. 1 « Thread Started on Jun 30, 2010, 11:53pm »
I'm looking over Gary Gygax's solo dungeon generator in The Strategic Review Vol. 1 No. 1 and I have a question:
Just WHEN is Table IV (turns) ever used? I can't see any table that leads to it.
And can someone give me their interpretation of the result for the passage/door location for die roll 12 for table 5, i.e. location: same wall, direction: 45 degree left/right, because I can't make heads or tails of it!

Okay, it took a little digging, but I think I've found it.
Look at Table I again. Notice the entries:
8 - 10 Side/Passage (see table III) 14 - 16 Chamber (see table V)
There's nothing between them, but I would guess it should read:
11 - 13 Turn (see table IV)
I just checked, and this entry is also missing when reprinted in Best of the Dragon volume 1.
As to the 45 degree left/right, remember that this is just for passages; doors would be checked on table II. So it's the same wall, but on the corner. Bad ASCII art:
___ ___ / / | | \ \
passage you're on is in the center, the passages to either side are one the same wall, but 45 degrees from the one you came in on.
Hope that answers your questions!
Edit: Just checked the DMG, which has the same system revised and sure enough, there's a check for turns on the entry between side passage and chamber. So I'm pretty sure I'm right.

I seem to recall that there was a small article in Dragon about a typo or something left off of that article, so I suspect that Coffee is right as usual.
Once I took the Dragon Mag CD and did a copy-paste into word with the hopes of cleaning up the format, since it's such an awesome concept. (1) I'm pretty sure I never finished the project, (2) I don't know offhand where I saved the file, and (3) I seem to recall that Word didn't like it much and layout was a real pain. It would be nice to try this again, however....

Table VII: Trick/Trap also seems to be missing an entry between 17-18 and 20. I may have to look for that errata article after all...

So I went back and did this again. An initial layout is complete, but I still need to find the errata and fix those trouble spots.
